Personal text blacklist

There have been arguments for/against censoring other words and phrases globally, but what about giving the power to remove words/phrases client-side so that they can dictate what is hidden to them personally?

There are plenty of players that would rather never see "gg ez" or "kys" for example. Give players the ability to have their own blacklist and then they wont see it as often. Give them the option to either sensor ("gg ez" -> "%%%%%") or remove ("gg ez" -> "") what they choose. Make the system controlled by regular expressions and the more tech savvy can paste their own rules to the public that block out variations of the same phrase.

The problem of getting trigger happy with a global censor is not as much of an issue when you're giving the players the power to dictate their own personal black-list. If they go overboard with their blacklist then it's of their own doing and it only affects them.

I guess, why not? I personally wouldnt use it, but if it doesnt take too much work to implement, why not give people the option?

Where do we stop with the ability to break communication in a team-based video game?

Look, I understand that certain things can be anywhere from annoying to upsetting, but isn't this just a bit overboard? Adding features like this has overhead, quite a bit of overhead, and there are definitely things that are way higher priority that need resources. This does not.

If they go overboard with their blacklist then it's of their own doing and it only affects them.

This is 100% not true. Any feature that hinders communication even more affects everyone in the team game. Riot isn't here to create a 100% safe space for people who can't deal with things like "gg ez."

My only concern is people going "Hurr durr just blacklist stuff" like they do with muting as a shitty "excuse" for their toxicity.

But, eh, that's a pretty small concern.

Yea, i don't think the requirement for an in-game chat moderation tool should actually be more suited for programmers than normies. You don't want to make it harder for people to use it. Eventually, people who are familiar with programming this way would likely put out commands in pastebin for everyone to use at some point but, even this would be a pain in the ass because you'd have to constantly jump to notepad in order to make the tool usable.

but muting the enemy team wont affect your team communication, because if your getting tilted at your OWN team for saying gg ez to the enemy team you have more serious problems with your life.
