No incentive to return from an accidental AFK

I just had a game where my house had a power surge and my computer powered off. Being the player I was, I booted up my PC and returned to the game as quickly as possible. I finished the game out the best I could, but I still got flagged for being AFK, which gave me no rewards at all for the game. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the system. I understand why it is there, but there's no incentive at all for me to return to a game I didn't mean to AFK from if I don't get at least partial rewards and I spend the rest of the game apologizing while everyone flames me, and my team being at a major disadvantage.

As long as the DC is less than 5 minutes total over the course of an entire game you won't be punished. It sucks that it was out of your control, but there is no way to change the fact that it was a lergely negative experience for everybody else & the system can't possibly know whether it was intentional or not.

I wish more threads were like yours, honestly. It's very rare to hear someone rationally explain their feelings on this topic, say they understand why the system behaves as it does, and put forward a possible solution in a situation where their teams were put at a disadvantage.

So thank you for that.

I agree that there could be some things they could do, but everything I can immediately think of has the possibility for abuse, mainly because the system has no way to tell if someone quit on purpose or truly had a tech issue that booted them from the game.

Riot is more concerned banning people for typing the N word and other words like KYS, cancer, etc then real game problems like inters, smurfs, intentional AFKs, etc. Stop wasting your time with this post.

While we're at this, it's far too easy to idle without going afk. I think it's messed up how accidental afks take the heat from riot, all the while you can decide to run around in your spawn if you want to surrender and nobody else does (much like that BASTARD did in my last game costing my a rank. This fucker is still at large, but watch, I'm gonna get in trouble just for calling it a bastard). It's because riot doesn't care enough to look at cases themselves, so they automate everything. Talk about being stingy with money

Agreed. Zyra support in a ranked match, I dc'd because my computer froze, restarted, immediately rejoined, ended up helping carry the team to victory, amazing K/D/A included, and we won. I received no LP, which I felt was really unfair. I redeemed myself and then some, and my team was no worse for wear. Depressing.

How in the actual fuck is there no system to detect whether or not you manually exited the game, or if the game crashed either from lag or another reason beyond your control? Is it harder than I'm making it sound, or something?

Perhaps Riot could use further information about the player to determine if he's in need of a punishment, other than the time dc'd. Farm per minute, kill participation, vision counter etc.

Yeah pretty much just don't log back in until the game is over. But one way to fix another problem from afks is riot should add off cooldown surrender vote for when someone has been disconnected for 3 mins or 5 or whatever. It would make it so that the 4 players in a 4v5 don't have to be forced to play 4v5. This is also good because there are many times a player would disconnect early and we cannot remake. I also don't see why early surrender has to be all voted yes. Also make that surrender vote unanimous because there's always that 1 person who is like "it's okay guys we can do it even if it's 4v5". That's "usually" for players who don't understand that generally 4v5 teamfights favor the 5.

There's 4 other people that you're screwing over by not at least trying to net the win. You can't queue up for another for a bit, so why not think about someone other than yourself f~~or a change~~?
It is likely that you still get the +MMR for the win, even if you lose out on the visible LP.
If you don't reconnect you are screwing over 4 other people.
You've probably lost quite a bit of ground being gone and all, potentially a learning experience about playing from behind/reacting to unexpected circumstances which'll help you get more LP in the future.

You have no clue how the algorithm for AFK bans work. Maybe in a month or two your electricity/modem keeps failing on-and-off, those 5 minutes of finishing up a 'lost cause' could potentially save you from bans/dropping honor levels.

They wouldn't need to have a system like this if there weren't so many intentional afks and dcs. All the rage quitters, kids who start games they don't have time to finish and every other lame excuse has ruined it for the rest of us.

i had my internet kick out 2x while leveling an account IN BOTS i reconnected in both games and STILL got a fucking 5 game low priority que. System sucks ass.

This leaver buster system will never be fair to victims of unforeseen, unfortunate events. You need to just deal with it. It's a broad system meant to target habitual offenders, collateral damage is unavoidable. There is not any other way to do it. The system is stupidly forgiving as it is. Getting tagged by it every once in a while will not harm you.

I have a large problem with completely forgetting that I start games because the loading screen is too boring. So believe me, I have a lot of experience with the system.

I like getting flagged for afk because the game doesnt even load properly for all players :)

had that happen twice yesterday. The second game I was able to Rejoin and was the best player on my team after some one else went afk completely for no reason

Hmmm. Not sure if it'd be hard to implement or not but maybe they could add a feature where other teammates are asked if they shouldn't be punished for the DC.
