The verbal abuse is excessivly rampant...

I started playing League Maybe two months ago. I love the game itself. I am pleased with nearly everything... except the absurd amounts of verbal abuse I have encountered. I am not high enough level yet to do ranked but I am getting close. I had enjoyed playing the game enough to start researching strategy, make a few friends and spend actual real money on the game. As I play more, I am getting more and more disappointed with the amount of players who verbally abuse me in game. Nearly EVERY SINGLE game I play now, I have to report someone for calling me rude names. How legitimate is reporting in regards to this? Since verbal abuse is so overwhelmingly rampant, it does not seem to be effective. I was under the impression when I first started playing that Riot held a strong stance against "unsportsmanlike" behaviors. It should not matter how long you have been playing, what your rank is, or even how well you play. No one should be subject to this kind of immoral behavior.

I would like some feedback from a staff member in regards to this matter.

Welcome to League of Legends, where everyone is an asshole. No exceptions.

Hang in there friend.

Unfortunately new players tend to enter through the ass end of the barrel where all of the trolls and the scum dwell.

You sound like you are on the right track to reach ranked and you may have a good enough attitude to climb fairly well. Believe it or not, attitude makes quite a big difference, and as such, the higher you climb in rank the less common it will be to experience toxic players.

That is not to say that you will never see or hear from them again, but it will just be less common.

I believe that League of Legends still holds the record as the most frequently played video game in the world, or at least it did for several years previously. This is to say that a ridiculous number of players log in to play from all over the world on a daily basis. The sheer statistics suggest that trolls will be abundant.

In the meantime, try your darnedest to ignore the negative comments, don't stoop to their level, mute them if needed, and report those who you feel deserve it.

Something to keep in mind in life.

There is this psychological principle called the Losada Ratio.

It says that for every negative experience, it takes, an average of three positive experiences to counteract your overall impression of the set.

That means that you can have two good games with no toxic players and one game with toxic players and you are likely to feel as though the community is toxic.

This also applies to an individual game. While (sadly) it is entirely possible that all four of your teammates were toxic jerks, it is actually pretty likely that only one, maybe two of them were toxic. This means that four or three of your team, including you, were not toxic. That is actually a majority, but those bad apples spoil the bunch for you.

So again, keep your chin up, stay positive, and have fun.

riot has a retarded ban policy

don't be surprised when you yourself will catch a ban for a nearly harmless chat because they report you too, you know

Also keep in mind that verbal abusers feel safe because they are "hiding" behind a computer screen, so they feel they can say whatever they want. /mute helps with this a lot. The last I game I had, I got camped mid and everyone came to my lane to push my wave out in order to "help"... All that did was take gold away from me, my mid laner didn't die, and my lane was always pushed out. So I just muted my whole team, read the map, had awareness, used pings, and ended up winning.

Muting, unfortunately, can be your best friend. But that's not always the case. My only caution is to use it when there really doesn't seem to be any hope of a teammate wanting to communicate to win.

Mute them. Very effective.

Of all the tools in the arsenal, my favorite one to make the game more enjoyable in these situations is /mute all.

Eventually you will have a circle of friends that you play with more often than not, and the game will be a much less hostile place. To many people act like jerks because of the internet shield that protects them.

Pay no mind to the salty players. Reports are heavy when executed with precision and vivid descriptions. Read over the summoner's code to be sure that you are reporting for the right reasons as well.

For example (may not relate to your situation): If people call you a noob every game and you report them for things that aren't necessarily against the rules or things that they haven't done then your reports will lose weight.

1 person checking 1 box is just as good as 9 people checking 3 boxes for example.

Best of luck!

You can always /ignore all but yeah i get that it doesnt always help since most times you have already been flamed.Maybe if rito banned retarded kids who make simple logic seem like something unachievable flaming would be less rampant

%#$^#%$ scrub @#!$@# trash at every roll !@#$!#@ words ....

Only hurt you if you let em ... get over it report them move on ... and honestly noone gives a damn about verbal abuse because you can mute people... short answer mute them... Long answer mute them and report them. Longer answer grow a pair... Or find nice members of the community like myself who will be cool until you mess up a fight or take my penta... also dear child remember corporations want one thing.. your money and they will say anything to get it. Anyone can say they hold a stance, it takes actual integrity to uphold it. Riot doesn't give a crap about bad players the whole system is there to create an illusion that they do, because at the end of the day nothing changes human nature... Also in case you weren't aware santa clause is not real.

New to the Internet?

I hope you play long enough to make it through the newb stage. It really does get better as your gameplay and ELO matchmaking accuracy improves. Definitely don't go into ranked when you hit 30. If you get flamed every game, you'll definitely go to bronze 5 and you will not get out. Just keep playing and improving. A lot of it is learning every champ so you know how to play against them. Mechanically, the game doesn't require that much skill. It's knowledge that is key so you're on the right track with watching videos. But experience is the best way to improve, so good luck man. Expect a lot more toxicity. If it bothers you, utilize the mute button. Simple solution.

Heres some feedback, Grow up. If you cant handle someone "calling me rude names" and your not smart enough to mute them dont play the game. Its literally just tab plus clicking the mute button. Youre the type of person who has ruined this game and why its become a meme for tilting and triggering. If you get "tilted because someone called you trash and you chose to not mute them and type all game instead of muting and playing your best its on you not them

This is unfortunately just the way it is with MMO type games :/ or the internet in general. It's unfortunate that anyone should have to deal with it, but you can always mute them and just report. That's the most you can do :/ This is the same even with Overwatch, which even has verbal chat systems where people will scream at you xD it can be quite awful, but I hope that you have a strong self esteem, or support system that can help if it bothers you :)
