Hi guys,

So I have finally come across the fabled 14 day ban system!

What a joy, to know that a single phrase could totally ruin your league experience.

In my case I made a joke and told a man I love him. I know..... I'm a truly toxic and horrendous human being however there may be some who are not as villainous as I and thus who may receive bans that they do not deserve.

I've read up on the banning system and how it works and I believe it is extremely flawed. I think the whole concept is extremely flawed and I cannot for the life of me figure out how no one has done anything about it. I mean the punishment handed out by this bot is extremely severe, I think that most people just accept it or submit a ticket and accept the answer that customer support will give you stating that you are wrong because the system says so.

Before we begin the debate on whether or not this banning system is flawed let me enlighten you with the very articles that allowed me to understand what had happened to me.

The first is a PSA stating that baiting 2 week suspensions is a thing. https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/7adx38/psa_do_not_get_baited_into_using_inappropriate/

The second is an in depth analysis of Riots automated banning system, Including a section on how to abuse said system.

I'd like to hear the opinions of the community on the system, as well as the 2 week ban delivered through automation, and possibly the suspension instated on my account which led me to discover the treasure trove of information I am sharing with you now.

Let's discuss whether or not this system is flawed, whether it should exist, or even if the punishments accorded by this system are considered "appropriate disciplinary measures."

I really want to hear the opinion of the community whom Riot is trying so hard to "protect" from toxicity.

I'd also really like to hear if anyone has any alternatives to this system if the conclusion is that it is indeed flawed. ( which I think it is :p )

Thank you boys!!

I've removed a link you posted, as it did talk about breaking the ToU, which is impermissible on the boards.

I also want to point out that despite posting your support ticket, only you have access to that information.

Edit: 12/12/18: Thread locked due to necro.

If you have any questions about this moderation, feel free to reach out to us in the Boards Discord.

Riot implementing a system like Blizzard does where you are permamute, NOT given a message every 4 minutes but straight up permamuted, would solve so many fucking issues with this game. Imagine if this was a policy 5 years ago how much effort and time they could have put into a detection system for role snipers, malicious afkers, and people that are ACTUALLY intentionally feeding.

I have never ONCE had my game ruined by someone throwing insults and baby raging. Not once. I cannot even count how many I have had ruined from people leaving though, or dying once and giving up lane following jungler around or stealing someone else's role in champ select. All verbal permabans do is move a ranked level 30 player off of ranked for three days while they fucjing destroy the new player experience as they level a new account up.

"I got banned for telling someone I love them" - someone who deliberately overlooks the actual reason for the punishment for the sake of a half-baked argument.

You got banned for using hate speech and telling someone to kill themselves. If you're genuinely going to sit there and play it off like you got banned for something innocuous, I don't think you've any place to call the system "flawed".

Let's discuss whether or not this system is flawed, whether it should exist, or even if the punishments accorded by this system are considered "appropriate disciplinary measures."

The system is flawed, but in such an infinitesimally small way as to keep it an extremely viable method of delivering punishment. It absolutely should exist, because if it didn't, hardly anyone would get punished, and nobody would have any fun. And the punishments issued are, 99% of the time, absolutely accurate. This is the case with your punishment, too.

So .. direct 14-day ban without prior chat restrictions? Or you've had past offenses?

If it's just a debate on whether the overall system is flawed, then I'll have to break it down and say no to the verbal detction side, yes to the gameplay detection side. No to all the punishments it dishes out.

I don't think there's a problem with the system.

The problem is that Riot intentionally obfuscates the rules.

It should be written clearly, in the client, that using pejoratives results in a 14 day ban. It should also be written clearly that insulting your teammates, in any way, is against the rules, and that asking for reports is both unnecessary and against the rules.

I definitely used two buzzwords, but what a machine can't apparently detect is context and when someone is simply messing around...

I've definitely had people pretend to be toxic for a second saying something stupid and pretending to ban my champ and then say i'm kidding and not actually grief. Jokes are funny and it's cool to mess around once in a while in video games...

My mistake was in messing with someone who was tilted/flaming me. Thus even though he wasn't actually insulted or offended he had the advantage of knowing there was a buzzword system and used this fact to extract his revenge for my abhorrent yasuo play.

Game 1 In-Game IGaNkNuBz: nuid can ytou go top? <-- this was at the start so it's unrelated IGaNkNuBz: you'rea %%%%%% kys <--- this is said as rakan is flaming me IGaNkNuBz: jk <--- and then 2 seconds after IGaNkNuBz: ily <-- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

As you can see I was clearly being toxic and i deserve to not play this game for 2 weeks.

The problem lies in using a buzzword system like this which can so easily be manipulated to completely ruin someones experience of a game this does not really solve or aid the toxicity problem, as empowers Flamers/Ragers to use the report button as a way to Troll/Grief people.

This is why I think the system in general is just bad, as well as the severity of the punishment regardless of whether or not I'm guilty in this particular instance.

This suspension has only served to attract my attention to something that I may not have noticed otherwise, this is why I think we should attempt to discuss a better system as customers of Riot and fans of League.
