The difference between "Trolling" and being toxic;
Hello again. I am Dominick Destine/TheMythof_Feminism/an old Everquest player. I have been on the internet a very long time and have most certainly posted more forum comments than anyone that could possibly be reading this.
There is something that has been wildly abused/lost to antiquity which is an art form with actual value that was practiced by randy jokesters of the time: "Trolling". Trolling does not mean coming up with random garbage and wasting people's time... trolling effectively means baiting someone into a specific reaction for the purposes of entertainment.
If executed properly; Trolling someone will entertain the troll, the target and the audience. Done poorly; Trolling will mildly entertain the troll.
The difference between being toxic and being a troll is; The troll will at least generate some level of entertainment value that can be appreciated by one of the three parties. The toxic player will generate NONE.
It's the difference between playing MF and saying; "You have [Insert politcally correct word for homosexual] eyes. I like that... no seriously, I love teh peen" (Meant to wordplay/joke MF's line) vs. "You're a [Bundle of sticks], go fornicate yourself you cigarette "
Trolling is almost invariably jocular whereas toxicity never is.
A good troll benefits all. There is no such thing as a "good toxic player".
Basically, slandering trolls as being toxic by default is bad. Trolling is not necessarily toxic behavior.
The word troll is wildly misused and should not be. etc, gg.
