Toxicity vs. Trolling

Riot,

I'm not a huge complainer, but I have to give voice to this frustration and I hope you'll give it some serious consideration. It's not something you haven't heard before, likely, but something I've yet to see any sort of progress be made towards.

"Verbal abuse/harassment" is one thing. Racism, homophobia, violent threats, etc. I get it, that's the sort of thing we want out of the game, and I'm with you on that. That being said, there IS a mute button should things get out of hand. I understand that you can't communicate the same way with pings, but muting doesn't end your experience, perhaps just limits it.

HOWEVER. You can't "mute" an intentional feeder. A summoner who refuses to communicate, to listen to pings, or, in several instances, blatantly owns up to their feeding/trolling and wears it proudly. These summoners ruin the game for everyone, and it's not uncommon. So often somebody will give advice (I admit, not always with language you might use in church), but the other player refuses to listen and considers the advice, the imploring, the caution all as harassment. When they get stubborn and troll purposefully, I ask that all would consider reporting.

Is this a bad move? Does that make me a bad teammate? I don't think so. The player has willfully and maliciously now ruined the experience; this is the sort of behavior worth reporting. Unfortunately, I've been warned post-game several times not about my "verbal abuse". THERE IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY. Here I am trying to make this an enjoyable experience (read: a learning experience, a fair game 5v5), but the trolls can report me just as easily, and I'm the one that gets reprimanded.

This is what happened with Dunkey. Admittedly a terrible teammate and opponent, as far as I can tell, but again, banned for something you can control your participation in: the chat (mute/unmute). While his farewell video was bitter and over-the-top, he did make a few good points.

Every night I play with friends and this happens. Every. Night. It's driving players insane and makes League something I would never, EVER consider recommending to anybody who doesn't already play.

Maybe you don't care: it's not a bug, it's not cutting into your money, it's another complaint. Maybe you've stopped reading. But if you haven't, and you actually care about the player-base, maybe you can stop feeding us lines about "improving the reporting process" and actually have a dialogue about what's being done to combat this issue.

If you made it all the way here, thanks for taking the time to read.

V/R,

Erdsdale

Is it worth reporting? Absolutely.

Is asking other players to report them a bad move? Absolutely.

You should report players you feel deserve a report, and you should let other players decide for themselves whether or not to report somebody. They do not need you asking them to do it, nor is it a good thing for you to ask them to do it.

It also has no effect, 1 report or 9 reports the player is looked at and will be punished if required.

One thing i dont understand is why people are upset about this now? This is nothing new, and there havent been trolls and toxic people since Gaming was invented. Its just more relevant now because you play this game a lot. Coupled with this being the most popular PC game you are going to get a lot of people like this more frequently because trolls know its the best place to target a populated game.

But all in all with the topic at hand while there is a mute button Riot doesnt want that to be a requirement. I think another person put it better something along the lines of, if you need to mute someone they have already broken the Code of Conduct. its basically like an insurance that the person broke the rules and your job is to report them afterwards. Just because we have things like this shouldnt mean you get to do those things. Take crime in general. We have rules and laws for that, yet it still happens. Should we just not have rules/laws because crime still happens in the real world?

As someone who has played this game for over 5 years. i find it very difficult that people have a problem with this. You dont need to type in chat, you dont need to express your frustration whether someone is feeding/toxic/trolling. You can continue to play the game as you see fit and after the game report the people who you feel have broken the rules in some way. Thats all you need to do, thats all ive been doing and i havent seen one warning, no chat restrictions or bans, nothing because despite the fact that i have people like that in my games i dont let it get to me, as should everyone else. Like another person said here They want that attention, they want your reaction. Why give them what they want? If you ignore them (chat wise) they will either go much more harsher (which in turn will give you better evidence to report them) or stop completely.

As with trolling. What people dont get is that a lot of people have different definitions of that word, as well as Riot. Some people think feeding is trolling (intentional or not) Some people think picking a certain champions is trolling, with such a broad definition and with everyone having basically a different meaning to it, its hard to actually take actions if one sees it as such.

Take Feeding at what amount of Deaths does it take into consideration? 5, 10, 15+? I would also think it depends on the time of the match as well. Then you need to also look for if the person is new to the champion, maybe it s a bad match up, maybe the person is having a bad day losing streak? there is so much at could be wrong, and having the persons account locked for something that might not even be their fault.

This is the reason that Reports in general are never a "One game deal" you need numerous reports on you, which means that what ever you are doing is a continuous occurrence. But what people also need to remember is that things like this will never go away, but Riot can/has been working on trying to keep it as low as possible, and in my opinion its working. Ive seen less and less Toxic behavior in my games. Really the only problem i still see from time to time is afk/DC, and honestly i cant blame the players for that. That is usually at the fault with Riot (whom we all know doesnt have that good of a track record with their servers) or the ISP.

I feel your pain. But the only thing you can do is report them and move on.

BTW If you don't flame, then the joy of their trolling is greatly lessened.

I really don't understand why trolls exist in the first place, Terrible past, Family member has died, Got fired from his job, Depression. A lot of theses things can turn someone into a troll, but we will never know why they have become what they are.

I troll a lot. It's an artform to me much like an artist who paints beautiful butterflies with heavy metals as a mural on the wall of a preschool. If you want to disarm a troll, be really nice to them. LIke as much as I love being a dick to random people, it's super hard to be a dick to people who are being super nice.
