LP, Champion Mastery Rank in match, Trolls, and YOU!

I watched a couple of things that popped up (Tyler1 being banned then unbanned, Shaclone, Mr. Look at the Singed support jungle then support) and most claim it's for toxicity and inting (intentional feeding). I don't know, I don't see numbers of all games, BUT... I do have an idea as people would say these folks have been known to just init and troll in a LOT of their games.

This plan works most in the Ranked situation, not sure about placements, so let's get started.

We know your champion mastery rank awarded at the end of the match is based on some kind of mathematical logistics and all that (comparing your performance to those in same role with same champion...) How often do TROLLS get A's or S's? Usually not so much I would presume as, if they are feeding, they are not on the field as much as they should, which means, since they are feeding, the creep score isn't so hot and they have a high death to kill ratio.

My proposal, since reports usually flood in and someone reviews the game to see if the init was intentional, or just a bad game and all that, is this: LP hit. Let me explain.

If you get an A -> S+ rank, clearly you're doing something right, even if your team loses. So instead of say, losing an outright 26 lp due to the troll having done his / her / it's thing, use their ranking as a modifier. "S+ but your team lost? Okay, instead of losing 26, maybe 20 or 13..." I dunno what a good number would be. Maybe scale that with their rank? A you take 3 off, A+ 4, S- 5, S 6, S+ 7...?

But as it stands now, if a Troll is actually feeding and being a pain (which will usually reflect in their champ rank processing numbers later to give them a rank for that match), then this could be a touch more of a deterred thing as it does not penalize someone doing well. After all, the match usually gets reviewed when there's a series of complaints about folks inting and all that so it could be easy enough to figure it out.

Also, penalize the Troll on the same level. "Instead of the 26 for the loss, because of your actions and abysmal rank C- / D or lower, You have been deducted (Insert a number here) points for negatively impacting your team."

Even if you're getting outright stomped, most of the time you don't get into D or C- rank unless you make a straight up effort in ranked to do so.

OF COURSE this may need balance or reworking and maybe additional factors (as in, 26 for loss, then after a review of players actions, send an annotation with the 'suspension) "You have lost this much LP as well as your 14 day suspension for your behavior."

Now this only covers ranks, so normals are gonna have a hell of a time with more trolls, but it is just a thought to help in general.

Thank you for your time.

This is an interesting idea, but it doesn't address the complex problem at the heart of Feederbuster:

How do you determine intent?

I recently had a game where mid fed pretty hard, which let their mid and jungle roll right over the rest of us when it came time for skirmishes and team fights. I got a C- for that match. I certainly wasn't feeding, but your system would assume I was. That isn't fair, especially when you consider I had no control over my mid, I didn't create the situation that led to dying so often in the later stages of the game.

Another recent example: I was faced with an enemy Akali who kept skirting team fights to jump me and my ADC, ignoring our (very fed) Nasus. The Akali would generally only get one of us, then get spattered all over the Rift. Eventually I clipped her with a Crescendo as she engaged, which led to me actually surviving, so we pushed up mid and ended the match (thank you, item 3504 on Sona). I only got a B- and we all know how much the rating system rewards winning. Again, under your system, I would have been punished.

How do you intend to address that?

This system would encourage bad play, supports would try to get their hands on any kind of gold they could, full tanks would KS instead of farm and snowball the carries.

If you win 70% of the time and carry a lane you will only lose 14 points or so for a loss regardless. Way to lose less points is win more often.

If your winrate is below 53% you're probably at your proper ELO and climbing will require a grind or improving.

IMO if you are climbing the system will rarely match you with bad players. The system matches you with toxic people and bad players when it can tell you're where you belong and it's time to take a loss.

The letter performance system is something Riot put in the game to raise the self esteem of Bronze players. It has nothing to do with good play a lot of times.

bad idea. sometimes the best play for your team is to sacrifice yourself for an objective or to save a teammate. but those arent the best plays for you if you are going for an S. if people decide to chasing high grades instead of making the best plays to win, then that is a problem.

it already is a problem sometimes. i was in a game recently where 2 of my teammates refused to end the game. they said they needed more farm to score an S. the other team cameback and almost won while they were stalling for more farm.

I disagree with you that mastery system works to prove you are doing something right. The system is almost totally punishing you if the game lasts long. And those who can play, does comebacks due being able to play mid and late game. And if champion is popular in higher divisions, getting even A is really hard. Zyra is good example of this as she is powerful champ now. Getting to the highest 20% of players in that game without taking into account other roles, is ridiculous.

Mastery system does not value objectives. It does not value team work. It seems to value only gold gain or K/D/A, and for support roles mastery gaining is almost impossible, as you cannot get creep farm, and support item gold is ignored.

FOLKS folks. Let's calm down. Like I brought up, it would merely, MERELY be a modifier and only used if you have someone getting reported for trolling or inting or things of that nature. It's not the 'End all Be all' system. And only as a modifier. If someone is 0/14/1 ADC then something. (Aka: the infamous Shaclone / Tyler1 etc thing where people swore up and down they were trolling no matter how good or bad they did.) This modifier would permit a slightly steeper penalty or reward pending on evidence found. The 'Mastery Rank' is only to give a snapshot before having to asses and I only brought up Mastery because it would hold as a fair snapshot in GENERAL. So when match is reviewed, they'll have an idea if there really was init or what not.

Sorry I wasn't on sooner. ASUS + Win10 bugs = Broke.
