Why are people so serious and toxic in ranked?
I played ranked once, and oh boy, we lost and everyone blamed me. I got lots of harrassment and things like "Uninstall u shitbag" or "kys u low elo %%%%%%". After that, I never played ranked.

It's a competitive game mode. It's frustrating if you dont have people taking it seriously. If you just want to mess around, do so in normal mode.
Ranked is for playing serious and norms is for practise which is more relaxed. In norms a lot of people dont care if they lose. Everyone wants to climb in ranked and losing because someone doesn't care for losing and is playing terrible which may cost the game is irritating.
Cause riot does absolutely nothing to balance the games and reward people according to how they play Either you're lucky to have a good team or you lose. All riot does is banning people when they tell the truth lol

the proper answer would be along the lines of it is human nature to be competitive and want to win, to excel improve and prove we can be better and it is something we as humans tend to take very seriously whether we mean it or not and put in a competitive environment which allows us freedom to be competitive unrestrained which in today's society tends to be more frowned upon we go much more hard in to the point of frustration when we feel someone else isn't pulling their own weight and stopping you from striving. now many are capable of holding in the worst of the frustration and some know that its not the others players fault and aren't toxic at all(these people blow my mind), but on average this frustration will seep out and the focal point will be directed at what they believe is causing them to lose and since they usually aren't thinking rationally its hit or miss whether they choose the right target or even that they will hold back from taking it out on that target.
tldr: we like to compete but tilt is very real when competing because we wish to win and we will find a target to blame because we don't wish to lose but can't figure out why or can't cope with it causing them to lose
