They should remove rank from people for being punished

Chat restricts drop you to 0LP in the division below. This includes Gold 5 to Silver 1 0 LP.

Bans delete your rank like a server transfer and force a placement game, typically causing a loss of multiple divisions, and basically ending your season in Challenger.

MMR is unaffected so it doesn't create pseudo-smurfs or provide bronze players an incentive to get 2 week banned in order to reset to silver.

Alternatively, and sadistically, provide up to two free losses in promos for each honor level below 2 (depending on BO3 / BO5), Honor 1 gets 1 loss regardless, Honor 0 gets 2 free losses in BO5.

Then all the actually good players trying to win would be held back while the people throwing games trying new sht in rank would be stuck in the same place cause they sucked anyway

I disagree, but this is something Riot would totally do.

I like it. People are toxic and need harder punishments.

Well, I do like it, not gonna lie.

But shouldn't it only be for repeat offenders, to offset the quite rare, but certainly possible, false positive?

I don't agree, because this artificially lowers ranks. As someone who used to compete in multiple sports, I'd find it extremely devaluing to be ranked higher than someone for any reason other than performance. It lessens the pride in my own achievement if the only reason I'm above my opponent is that he was an asshole. If I made it through an entire tournament and lost to the winner, I earned that 2nd place rank. If I was given 1st place because the guy who beat me flipped off the ref, that 1st place status would be worth less than 2nd place to me.

Furthermore, you know that people would try harder to bait people into flaming badly enough to get penalized if it directly affected ranked progress.

Behavioral punishments absolutely should not target ranks. Banning people is fine; if they need to go, they need to go. However, as long as competitors are qualified to compete, they should be given full ability to do so.
