Am I wrong for making a new account to play a new role?

I have not played top lane (or any solo lane) since season 5 where I pretty much only played malphite. For S9 I decided to climb up from the bottom and not ruin the game for everyone else by going top in high gold - low plat games with 0 knowledge of matchups and powerspikes. I'd like to hear the community's thoughts on this, because I'm honestly not sure if I'm going about this the right way

(Would It be more detrimental to other players to "smurf" (lol) or go get snacked on top lane for 50 games in my actual elo?)

Some things to know:

  1. It isnt wrong. Smurfing itself can be helpful. You can help newer players learn things that they might not have known for years down the line (seriously. Do you know how many people do not know you can Nami Q someone while running back to lane to speed them up....). The only problem will occur if you do not play it in the same way you would your main (for example, trolling around and throwing games. There is a difference between not wanting to completely annialate someone and purposefully trying to lose).

  2. You will probably end up against smurfs. Lots of them. It is one of the most toxic areas down there. Be careful and be strong. Help show that not all league players are total jerks.

  3. Best to play bot games until about level 15ish..... playing a normal before that just about seems like you are vs them anyways because of all the people running their bots through games...

  4. You will not have your champion pool to work with. If you are fine with having to work for the champions again, then by all means. Otherwise.... it will be a little bit of a grind. Enjoy it, learn from it, and teach others how to play better based on your experience.

Why exactly cant you just play norms instead of contributing to the deteriorating state of matchmaking in low elo thanks to smurfs.

I did this with riven top and I'd say I was a detriment to my team on both my main and my smurf lol

I kinda agree with the guy saying play normals, cause I mean that's what you are going to have to do for some time either way. However if you make a new account and start playing it will soon get you to the place where you should be, both in normal and in ranked so idk if it would even constitute as smurfing. You aren't making the account to play with less skilled players and crush them but rather to play with those who are your level. Also, you could just study the matchups and powers pikes, that's what you'll have to do anyways Also also, if you are so much worse top then you'll probably loose ranks quite quickly to get to a more suitable place

It would.probably be better to just play norms. I think in low levels you get iron level players, up to diamond smurfs. Its just not a stable way to learn. You will get a false sense of powerspikes, if thats what youre going for, because you may play against legit new players who dont know about powerspikes, or diamonds who are gonna stomp you without utilizing powerspikes anyways. I think its always better in general to learn a new champ against decent players. Its just more realistic. But I dont think its "wrong" to try it on a new account either.
