I think maybe what they mean is that rito has always been against setting an established meta, so when you are "forced" into the standard 1 top, 1 mid, 1 jungle, 2 bot "standard meta" it really puts a damper on those players in the community who prefer different styles of play. For example, there's the 2 top, 1 mid, 2 bot "pre-level 10 style" that is popular before a player reachs level 10 and has access to smite. There's also double-jungle-without-asking style, the mid-or-feed style, the all-mid style, and my personal favorite, the stubborn-duo-who-don't-need-no-pick-order-so-now-we-have-3-bot style. All of these different team comps aren't supported by this champ select now. Now I realize that just because you pick that role, doesn't mean you're required to go to that lane. However, I would have thought rito would understand how triggering it could be for someone who is forced into picking a label that they don't really identify with. I mean, it's 2016 now!
Anyway, that's just the argument I think they're trying to make. Maybe they're onto something, but probably not. The real stupid argument people keep making against the champ select is "how unfair it is to play against a premade group of 5 when you have a bunch of random people on your team." I'm pretty sure rito has said that if you're a 5 man premade, you're most likely going to be playing against another 5-man premade. I'm sure there will be some rare instances where a premade of 5 plays against "premades of 3 and 2" or a "premade of 4 plus the dreaded scapegoat 5th man," but like I said, those will probably be few and far between. All you have to do to refute that argument is look at the old champ select that just matched you based on skill. How often were the games complete stomps for or against your team? If they nailed that queue system, I'm sure they've nailed this one too.
