I think toxicity is so prevalent in league because people think they won't get banned for it

Just my thoughts and observations on the matter, but I feel like people are toxic and shit in this game because they've come to the conclusion that they'll either only get a chat restriction or just not get banned at all. With the reporting system being so whacked out when it comes to if it wants to ban someone for toxicity or not, people think they can get away with this shit with no real punishment. (ex: one guy could say fuck you r%%%%% and get away and someone else could say you're shit and should fucking die will get banned where both sentences are extremely toxic and SHOULD lead to a ban)

My idea for a way to maybe remedy this is a system like CS has, where if someone is reported for toxicity, anyone who signs up and is approved with honor 3+ for longer than one month can choose to review a case and determine if there indeed was toxicity or not in chat. Names would be redacted obviously but I think it could work if it was given a chance. Also, remove chat restriction, that shit usually doesn't even work because people who were toxic once are typically going to be toxic again.

just my two cents, lmk what you guys/girls think.

Riot is an SJW company that got woke. They could give a rat's ass about actual gameplay offences. It's only hurty words they care about.

If you say r%%%%% you are buying tickets to get banned. If you say r€tard, you are not.

If you say K . y. s you are buying tickets to get banned If you say K (enter) Y (enter) S, you are not.

Anyways, idc about what random people tell me, I care about the 0-14 guy trolling by "splitpushing and dying" (An acceptable way to troll) or the 0-20 nunu in 10 games in a row that decide to follow me trying to steal buffs (And keeps playing!!! :D)

TLDR: as soon as u don't say magic words, you won't get punished. Bring back tribunal

I think people flame so much because half the people don't care about winning and the other want to win because they are competitive, since the game has become so team oriented it makes people feel like the result of the game is out of their hands more frequently leading them to being mad at their teammates whether justified or not.

With the reporting system being so whacked out when it comes to if it wants to ban someone for toxicity or not, people think they can get away with this shit with no real punishment.

So from the verbal detection side, the system punishes people based on consistency x severity. Meaning people can get punished for 1 game of extreme toxicity or many games of mild toxicity.

Granted People have different gauges on the severity of toxicity. Someone might think calling someone r%%%%% as super toxic, where as another person will think the same for gg ez. So the severity is Riot's secret sauce, but chances are it's actually the community that decides the severity, where if alot of people reported certain phrases from back in tribunal days, then the phrase will be deemed as more severe in toxicity.

Education is certainly a problem within the behavioral system (and you've proved it already by saying the system is out of whack and you don't know how punishments are handed out), but another problem is the clarity and transparency of things.

If people don't see others being punished, then they don't know where the standard is. When they don't know the standard, then they think it is fine for them to act the same way.

There are many features systems and gameplay mechanics that nurture and grows toxicity.

Is a yasuo/Pyle or other bullshit in your game, high toxicity.

Auto filled, very high toxicity

Leavers in draft pick for 5 times in a row.

New champion trolling.

Premades in solo queue leading to 5 man stompfests

Etc etc.

The punishment is their looming over everyones head further spreading a negative mindset.

This is completely untrue, people get banned for it all the time. But more importantly they won't change the system to a tribunal system because when they've tried it in the past it didn't work, which is why they switched it to a completely ridiculous an terrible autobot system which also doesn't work.

Cool name btw XD

Anyway, from my perspective I feel like players are being toxic mostly from the following:

  • champion balance
  • being outplayed
  • bad performance teammate (even in a freaken blind pick)

When someone gets tilted from something, the concern of getting banned just goes away and be like "fuck this game, I don't care if I get banned!" But from your perspective, it just looks like people are arrogant af. Although maybe they flame in 1 game then don't speak a single word for like 2 or 3 games then flame again and repeat. Idk how the ban system fully works, but as far as boards player behavior has to offer, it works fine. It's just a matter of time, I mean even an AI has limits in processing millions of reports.

Call me a sadist, but player behavior posts here are entertaining and cringe worthy. "omg i don't deserve ban!" then chat log shows he spammed "kys" 100 times or some shit (just an example, never seen such a thing. Not yet at least).

I hate to disagree, but I feel what promotes toxic behavior is the overbearing punishments. I got a chat ban and my honor rank set back to 1 for being snarky. Not swearing, not belittling, just being snarky toward two "bad" players over the course of hundreds of games. You know what I learned? Hit that report button asap to anyone that steps a single cm out of line.

I didn't call anyone even so much as "dumb". Instead it was like "gee thanks" sort of comments. So yeah, losing hundreds of hours and hundreds of games of progress for not so much as a single insult, you better believe that leaves me in a toxic state.

Edit: I'll explain a little further...

Because when someone is facing down a massive punishment, many people then will try to make it worth the punishment. Instead of telling someone "l2p" they'll kick it up till they feel good about it, make the ban that "l2p" would have given them worth it. So then they just pile it on, because might as well make it count, right?

And yeah, very, very salty (and probably will always be salty) about losing my honor due to being snarky and sarcastic, not even insulting. That's not okay.

You cant review chat in csgo's OW system. Only gameplay-related offenses. What youre asking for is Tribunal for chat. And thats a hard NO for me chief.

I've resorted to reporting players via submit ticket. I feel like I can feel assured the case gets looked at. with report function it is a case of "ha. yeah fuck you. we won't do anything to punish this player who was very clearly being toxic and broke several rules" if the in game report system is to be any better than it is now it needs to notify you every time if/when a player is punished. not one notification every blue moon. that could be why players get pissed off. they report a player several times for several reasons and they never get a notification stating they were punished and as such think they never got punished to begin with and are still causing trouble.

Before we get into how to fix toxicity, first we have to figure out why Riot doesn't even want to fix, and worse, why they actually encourage BM-ing.
