These Games Can't Escape Their Own Aggressively Toxic Communities

And the winner is.....? LEAGUE! LOL

DAYUM that report system is really doing a great job punishing them trolls! Like I said the chat ban is useless. Very few actual trolls get prevented from screwing up matches and verbally abusing players

I was just browsing the Memes and games subboards and came back here to check for new behavior posts. For a second I thought I was still in Meme and Games.

Like I said the chat ban is useless.

And... what's the alternative? What other solutions are there?

The game is free-to-play, so there's nothing to discourage making multiple accounts.

Its impossible to track people through their IP, making IP bans useless. The only way to realistically track unique users is through logging identification (such as state IDs or SSNs) or the use of SMS verification, both of which can be viewed as a privacy issue and can alienate users who don't have easy access to such information.

There has to be some leniency with punishments as to not alienate large amounts of the playerbase (because a surprising amount of people receive a 10-game chat restriction and then never get punished afterwards.) If the system is too strict, it's offputting to newcomers and removes the ability for the freedom of dialogue in things like premades and the use of swears.

An automated system can't consistently or efficiently crack down on intentional feeding, AFKing, or trolling, so they have to be manually reviewed. Manual reviews take time and are subject to error or bias.

What else can Riot do? I honestly don't see any alternatives.

At what point does the community take responsibility for their actions?

Few things to point out.

  1. League isn't a RPG, it is a MMO.

  2. The example given in the picture for the article is indeed a chat one. Are you saying verbal offenses need a harsher punishment?

I have a few qurestions...first when was this ranking system even made? that screenshot is OLD AF like...its on the old map for crying out loud. And how reputable is that site? ive never heard of it.

Second, as many people have said, league isnt an rpg...

3rd: YOU CAN'T FORCE PEOPLE TO ACT A CERTAIN WAY. the game isnt bad, the people are...but that is litterally every competative comunity out there. Have you ever played ranked overwatch? with voice chat? woo boy.

It may seem like riot isnt doing anything but like...idk what they can really do tbh. When it comes to chat its pretty easy to make certain trigger words and their variations bannable. But actual gamplay trolling...you cant automate lest you punsih people who are legitamately new, bad, or just having funsies in a 5s game but aren't trying to ruin the game for their enemies.

For every troll their ban, there may be another new player that just so happens to be a troll that comes in. Legit player toxicity and trolling will always exsist unless people somehow up and ascend to being nothing but respoectful to each other...but this is the internet...i doubt thatll happen.
