Getting banned for flaming trolls

I just got permabanned because I flamed in chat a guy on our team that went 0/15 on Heimerdinger after not even 20 minutes. He was costantly trolling, using zhonya and summoners for no reason, suiciding against the enemy team but in a smart way. It is true, I have been playing for a while in silver/gold and Riot Support just looks at chat logs. They don't give a flying fuck of what happens inside the game. Literally, one game out of three, there is someone who deliberately acts this way, just for the fun to get people raging at them. And you know the saddest part? The one that will get punished is gonna always be the ones that rage at them in chat. This is the main reason why this game is so toxic and this is the main reason why the game is gonna slowly die. You can be allowed to do literally ANYTHING in the game, as long as you don't flame in chat. I have been playing LoL for more than 6 years. My only suspensions have been a couple of chat restrictions and a 2 week ban always for flaming trolls / hard inters in game.

Of course, the fact that I never spent money in the game had a big weight as well, I suppose (before someone starts complaining about this, I have been working in Customer Support for f2p games for quite a while, I know that this is exactly what happens when support receives a ticket. First thing to check is how much money they spent ingame).

I am not even mad at the permaban. I will invest my time in somethign more productive than flaming at frustrated people. It is just sad to see how horrible is the support of a company that has always been highlighting how much they care about their player base.

Protip: if LoL is recognized as the most toxic game ever, start asking yourself why, before it is going to be too late.

It's funny, because that was Riot's policy when they started as far as I know. LoL isn't recognized as the most toxic game ever. In fact, they are fairly progressive in their behavioral systems. It was a news story recently that Rainbow Six Siege started banning players for hate speech, and I was kinda like "why is this news? Riot has been doing this for awhile now."

What good does it do you to bully a player? And how do you know they don't get punished by Riot? I've seen all the posts from people claiming that trolls don't get banned; I've also seen the posts from trolls trying to call Riot out and getting Smited for it.

The systems aren't perfect. I will admit that (and I'm sure Riot would, too, if pressed), but they are doing a pretty damn good job. If you're getting punished, it's because you are doing something wrong. Report the player and move on; include in your note that they are trolling in game, and Riot will deal with them.

Riot cares more about keeping chat safe for kids under the age of 13 instead of dealing with the main cause of players rage [sg-miss-fortune]

so you flamed and ruined the game more for 3 other people because of a troll... good job.

False.

That goes against the ToU you agreed to follow.

the fact that I never spent money in the game had a big weight as well,

Yeah. About none at all.

I know that this is exactly what happens when support receives a ticket. First thing to check is how much money they spent ingame

K. Does LoL do that? Did you work at Riot's customer service?

I am not even mad at the permaban. I will invest my time in somethign more productive than flaming at frustrated people.

Why didn't you do that before you got your perma?

I never thought id get to see the opposite argument from what we usually get...

Then I guess all these people complaining that they got banned after spending thousands of dolars on skins must be lying, right?

Getting banned for flaming trolls

Fixed that for you.

You do NOT get an exception to the rules just because someone else broke them first. Mute, report, move on. Trolls and flaming players get punished when the system identifies them -- it just isn't always immediately.

The reason it isn't immediately, by the way, is that Riot cares about their players. Trolls are less common than people having bad days, and Riot doesn't want to ban players for a really bad game here or there, so the system takes pains to ensure that it's a trend.

Could it be improved? Definitely. They're working on it, but accurate detecting all trolling behavior is really difficult.

As someone who has had 5 trolls in my last 5 ranked games, don't bother wasting braincells on people. I mean there are people who are just bad at the game and don't care to learn from it. You cannot get upset anymore because there is no use in getting upset at a system that doesn't punish or teach these players anything. These players are going to continue what they are doing and they are going to do what they want. You can either accept that and try your best in the game or flame them. You decided to flame them.

Next time you need to take screenshots, caption a video of the match, go into detail exactly what happened and file a support ticket. I have reported 7 people the past 4 days and I at least feel better about the situation since these players are being flagged for something if they screw around again. File a support ticket with evidence, report players after a game, and mention your report in the support ticket. Do not flame.

It sucks to get matched with a troll, but when you flame, the troll wins. They want to piss people off. If you show them that it worked to piss you off then they will want to keep doing it and so they will troll even more. Next time ignore them and report them after the game. If nobody reacts, a troll will either give up or act out worse enough that they're practically guaranteed to get banned afterwards.

Just remember: When you lose your temper, the trolls win.
