This community is actually pretty wholesome

I made a smurf account and pretended to be a ten-year-old named Aiden, for a survey for my online class. Hopped into a game, and started telling people it was my birthday, and doing my best imitation of a ten-year-old. My initial hypothesis was that I'd get flamed to hell and back, but no, everyone was actually civil. Three people wished me happy birthday and told me how good I was at the game (Hint, I wasn't.) and no one said anything inappropriate in chat.

Very wholesome.

10/10 kindness.

hmm, well to be fair! Earlier player are often kinder, and you did choose to be 10 years old. Those two things you chose to do may have had an effect on peoples out look on you!

However! This does not mean you are wrong! Knowing that the people you interacted with where willing to be nice to a 10 year old boy lets us know that the community isn't as harsh as most would believe us to be.

We are definitely geared to treat people of different age groups in certain ways. Unless a 10 year old really goes off the rails into tantrum territory, it's built into humans to protect little kids, and in cases where we play games with them, we'll be pretty tolerant of a lack of understanding of how the game works - we want kids to have fun.

Next time tell them you're 14. They won't be as nice.

I see you are putting that Tuition Fee to good use...

I'll see myself out. Glad that experiment was pleasant though.

Yeah, there are many toxic people but also good ones, and people seem to just focus on the former and forget about the latter.

Like for instance, in one of my last ranked games, I was playing sup with a Tristana who was just really bad. But instead of flaming her, people just kept giving her advice, and thanking her and saying "wp" on the few occasions she got a kill, and that was quite wholesome. Since I'm sup I generally try to be super positive and helpful to my adc, especially if they struggle, but I'm generally the only one - so it was nice to see the whole team keep a positive vibe going on.

This is interesting.. Which time line do you live in? You might be on a different time line than me-- in my world, people throw around the word kys and tell others they suck all the time!
