There needs to be a "Mute Pings" button next to the "Mute" button in the scoreboard...

Something that really irritates me is when players spam pings just to be annoying. It's happened too many times to count that someone will spam pings incessantly, and god forbid you tell them or they find out that they are muted.

I realize there are reasons that muting a player shouldn't completely prevent you from seeing or hearing their pings -- after all, someone might be toxic in chat, but still ping intelligently. Not wanting to read what they have to say shouldn't cut you off from being able to use other tools to coordinate as a team. But, often, players who are toxic in chat will continue to be as annoying as humanly possible with pings too. There needs to be a way to mute another player's pings, for two reasons:

  1. The ping noise is annoying as shit when spammed, and having to hear it over and over is tilting. Duh!

  2. When one player spams pings, it causes the rest of the team to stop paying attention to them. This, consequently, means that when someone else pings for a legitimate reason, there's a chance others won't notice, assuming the ping noise is coming from the spammer.

Alternatively, consider an option to "Suppress Pings" after the first ping from any player per some time period -- 30 seconds, perhaps? It'd be to ping noises what chat restriction is to chatting: once every 30 seconds, the first ping they make can be heard, but afterwards, all ping noises are suppressed.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I also know that there's a difference between pinging something multiple times to communicate urgency and constantly spamming pings as soon and as frequently as allowed and possible. The former, I think, most players do from time to time. The latter is just childish.

Please god yes. I'm tired of having super toxic teammates that get muted by everyone, just for them to start spamming pings I can't ignore.

I agree. It irritates me when you mute someone annoying and is totally negative the whole game and muting them doesn't necessarily fix the problem because like you said, they can still spam ping the heck out of me to drive me crazy.

It just kills me that Heroes of the Storm, which is like miniature golf to League's actual golf, has ping muting, and League doesn't. Especially since I have been begging Riot for ping muting since long before HotS was even released.

I would say that probably 10% of all my deaths in LoL come from having to stop playing in the middle of combat to tell someone to stop spamming me with pings. I make it absolutely clear that continuing to spam me will cause death after death, and in no way help us or the team. That USUALLY stops it on the first warning.

And, yes, the "boy who pinged wolf" syndrome is very real. Once you've got one ping spammer in a game, all pings become basically useless.

I hate it, but because I can't curse when I am frustrated, I just spam pings. It is not something I am proud of, but I can't avoid it.

But that's the thing though. How are they going to tell someone is doing it to annoy and if one is using it to actually communicate? I've had people claim they didn't see/hear the ping despite me doing it 2-3 times so by their logic I wasn't spamming it enough. Yet I've also had people claim I was spamming ping just by doing it 2-3 times. So by their logic I should get punished because I'm spamming. So which is it?

Full muting pings comes after full muting chat at which point 0 team communication is occuring in a game where team communication can be useful
