Fps Drops....Did I Fry My Cpu?!?!?

Hey guys I've been playing league for a while now on my laptop and i usually sit around 80-100 fps at max settings. But something bad happened earlier in the week. I had my cpu set to max performance....and in the middle of a 45 min intense game i smelled burning....so i checked the cpu temp with my app(core temp) i also have (speccy) and the cpu temps were at 102o C. I didnt want to drop out of the game since it was ranked and we were barley winning....so i kept trucking...about 5 more min in my frames dropped quick...like real quick my frames dropped from 100 to about 15 fps...everything got really choppy than my screen went gray and started tripping balls like it was having a meltdown. So i panicked and pulled the plug. I waited about 10 minutes and tried to reboot but 5 minutes into the boot my laptop shut right back down..like someone pulled the cord....waited another 5 min and it did the same thing. I somehow got it started after giving it a couple hours to cool off and im scared to turn it off because i don't think it will come back on. I've done some messing around and i now have my cpu power set to 90% instead of 100%. And for some reason that 10% makes a huge difference and the temps never go above 75oC now. But now when i try to run league i only get 40 fps when i used to get 80-100. I shouldn't of dropped 50 fps over a 10% power reduction. I should be getting way more especially with a crossfire setup....i feel like i may have fried my cpu... What do you guys think about this? Is my cpu fried? Could it be something else? I'm ordering a new cpu fan a power supply and possibly a new cpu.

Here are my specs:

Operating System: Windows Vista 64 bit(poop) Cpu: Intel Dual Core P8600..rates at 2.4ghz a piece (1 thread a piece) Ram: 8gb ddr3 1300mhz Graphics: Ati Radeon Hd 3870(512mb) clocked at 660mhz a piece....i have two of them running in crossfire. Hard Drive: sata 3 ssd 240gb 850 evo 6gb/sec download speed Cpu Temps Under Load: 70-80 o C. On max performance the temps hit 100o C easily. Built to withstand 105o C. Gpu Temps under Load: 60o C. Motherboard Temp: 70-75oC. Age: 2008 Brand: Alienware m17 r1

Problems I've had before this incident:

1 Screen locking up every 20 minutes...i have to ctr ult delete to un-freeze it. 2 Cpu fan screaming like a banshee. 3 led lights and lights to my razer mouse flickering....hinting at a power problem. 4. Random shuts offs on cold starts. 5. Hard Drive Failure (had to replace it) 6. Battery not holding a charge (had to replace it)

Honestly, my guess would be something went wrong with your GPU, not your CPU, although it does sound like you overheated the poor machine pretty bad. I'm surprised that it didn't automatically shut off sooner.

Chips have a suggested max temp range it doesn't mean you have fried it. The best thing is normal maintenance. the last time I "Fried" a GPU I actually started melting and warped the board.

First start with basic things.

-Dust your machine(pull covers off and use anti static brushes or canned air) -make sure all thermal paste and ceramic paste is good(you'll notice if its bad) -make sure all venting systems are clear and working -defrag, and clean harddrive weekly(monthly or every two months at least)

Your listed problems:

1.) To many tasks or applications and their priorities can effect current ones or ones you want to run first. (Run "Msconfig") and select programs you want to start or run when booting.. etc. 2.)Cpu fan screaming: That's normally just the fan itself and only points to a grease or dust problem 3.) Led rights and lights to the mouse flickering: This is a software issue with Alienware's "fusion" app. 4.) Cold boots with random shut offs: Here I would honestly start looking into repairing your bios or reinstalling it. And then move into more indepth troubleshooting of windows and errors with the OS. 5.) Hard failure can happen from multiple reasons... Only the start up/shut down one would I remotely consider. 6.) Proper battery maintenance requires you to FULLY DRAIN THE BATTERY and recharge it. Not doing so can lead to shorter life and other issues.

I hope this helps, goodluck. [slayer-jinx-catface]

THis is a troll post right? the game has a max of 60fps, 100 would be too fast and ur ping would SEVERELY rise to unplayable standards, I know, i used a speed hack so i could watch jinx's dance at 2x spd
