-NOT- an exclusive Riot Points giveaway: Scam awareness

Please be cautious of offers that promise "Free RP/skins". Far more often than not they are just scams, and you are risking your account and personal information by going to them. They like to say they are giving away a recently released skin or some RP just for signing up and sharing their link, and are almost always distinctly different from a Twitch streamer giving RP cards which is recognizable by the verbiage used (Click this link for free RP!); if you can't find the offer through a Riot source first, it isn't an offer from Riot.

Do not share the links no matter what. If you want to report it to Riot but include the link for them, submit a Support Ticket so that other players are not exposed to the scam who otherwise wouldn't be. If you see one of these scams being shared, immediately report it.

Riot Games official pages are leagueoflegends.com, riotgames.com, or lolesports.com. If you want to see what current promotions they are offering you can find them on their support page here, and most new offers are announced on the home page of this site.

Riot censors the most common scam sites shared on the boards so that they're harmless, but the link section doesn't benefit from the filter, and some may use a link redirection service to give it a different name that isn't censored. Think twice before trying to redeem offers that seem too good to be true; more often than not, they are. Double check the URL for inconsistencies with the Riot sites if it looks real, because the scammers often create a new site that looks exactly like the official sites and is named relating to a current in-game event (Such as Harrowing or Snowdown + rewards/giveaway etc.); it's sometimes possible for your computer to be compromised without you actually giving them information, so don't even go to look at it. As I said, crosscheck with the official sites when in doubt.

Here's an article about protecting your account and avoiding account theft

If your account gets compromised, please follow the steps in the account recovery article here.

Trying to protect stupid people from themselves is inherently futile, just saying.

The one main thing you can do is goto the terms and cntrl+f or cmd+f and look for maybe or not guaranteed. Alot of these websites put this because if you dont have a 100% chance to win then they aren't liable

Stop doing Riot's job, we do not pay you to do this. If you want a job, fill out an application and we will consider offering you a paid position. Otherwise, please vacate the premises or we will have law enforcement escort you.

I just tried it and it really worked. You just have to follow through with what they want you to do, but in the end it's 100% legit!

Great post Deep Terror Nami!

Note to everyone: When you see posts advertising fishy stuff, report the posts, then go to the poster's profile and see if the poster posted any other fishy posts and report them too. We have really efficient moderation staff that clean up reported posts quickly, but only if you report them. If you downvote them that's great as well, but they're not getting removed unless they're reported or a moderator stumbles upon one of the advertisements.

Note #2: One specifc scam that pops up a lot is a link to a google site accompanied by "Free Skin Codes! Get PAX Sivir, Arcade Hecarim, Riot Blitzcrank, Full Metal Rammus, and Arclight Varus!" Another common sort of scam is where a user will post in

#BIG LETTERS WITH A LINK ATTACHED If you see this, scroll over the link and see what site it links to. If it's something fishy like redirectwp or some other site that will probably redirect you to the scam site, don't visit it. (Don't visit it if it directly links to the scam site either.) You may open yourself up to viruses. Some will also link to Youtube videos which talk about the free skins and provide links. Those are safer since you won't get a virus by going to youtube, but there is still no reason to go through the links because you never know.

Note #3: Often times these posts will pop up in the News section of the site, where we don't have a report button (or a quote post button, or an edit button). In that case, visit the Announcements section of the Boards and go to the thread through there. That's how you can report the posts. You can also view the poster's profile through the Boards view and go to his or her other scam posts (if there are any) and report those too. In the odd case that the post is on a specialty site, such as the Dark Star Thresh site, you won't be able to view the comments through the Boards view since the thread isn't actually on the Boards. In that case, all you can do is downvote the post and post a thread in Boards Feedback asking the moderation to remove the post.

Note #4: If you notice one scam post in the News section, there are probably a few more. Take a bit of time out of your day and look through the recent News threads and report the scam posts. I found two three just today!

It seems like some people's accounts are being used behind their backs or something. I would get this message from one of my friends and reply "?" or something like that. The next message they send me they tell me not to click on the link.

I mean it's sad that post like this even have to be made. People just need to use common sense. Nothing in life is free! I understand kids play this game and those are usually who fall for this, but also their parents need to be monitoring their child's internet/game. If they are going to sites without their parents permission that's the fault on the parent!

I saw it appear multiple times, the one with the 10/25/50 cards options. Especially on Youtube. I went in and picked the 25 card once and used my alt account name to get as far as possible, coming to a halt at entering my Email address and completing some promo thing.

Dude this giveaway is and official League of Legends page. It has all the other options on it like community and board. Also my friend got the code and everything. The issue is the Login button. Even if it was a scam they couldn't do anything without my account info. The main issue is that it puts me in EUW instead of NA.

Bentt10/14/2016, 8:46:22 PM

The fucking great thing is hey there scam is garbage. The login button didn't even work. Fuckin nerds. At least some people get it lucky. Although I am gonna say I was a bit ignorant and over excited when I saw it because it was setup just like an official League page. Happy I made that post because hey I wouldn't have known. There has been a few times when games I play gave out free stuff. Although I should've known just by looking at it that it was fake. It said fucking Easter Event. God I'm blonde sometimes.
