When looking for advice on how to improve

So looking for advice in league is the same as looking for advice in poetry and story telling.

A poetry or story "workshop" is where a few people gather together to analyze poetry or a story, comment on the good and the bad. The missing puzzle piece here is that the author isn't allowed to say anything during the entire duration. He must listen to everything while the others refer to where mistakes were made. they make specific references, all the while talking as if the author wasnt there. It is often brutal and harsh but for a good reason.

The authors sole goal is to take the advice and see if it works or not.

So lesson learned? When people try giving advice stop defending yourself and just listen, stop comparing, and just listen. You will get a lot more if you stop arguing for your reasons. You might not agree with everything that is said, but try it anyways. It will surprise you how effective it is.
