So I just bothered to watch that new Shurima cinematic(?), and I must say I find it not just disappointing, but outright concerning. It sounds like someone reading out a really bad fanfic.

  • There is a staggering lack of pronouns, as though the person listening is assumed to have the attention span of a fruit fly(which might be accurate, but is besides the point).
  • No character is refered to in any way other than their name, which feels like whoever wrote this has no idea of who the character is, but desperately wants to assure us that that is indeed that character(although given the recent lore reset, there might genuinely not be anything other than the name to describe those characters).
  • The names themselves are also repeated with an almost frequency, as though no more than a single action can be taken by a character, without reminding us that it is still them that are performing it.

Sure, it all boils down to just the damn names being repeated way too much, but it's still bad writing.

You do have a point. It sounded like the script was actually just notes describing the actions to take place (during original sketching of the scenes, so the artists would know what was going on), and instead of writing a narrative afterward they just read the notes off.

Whether it is due to my lack of faith in the lore department currently (Trundle, different thread) or due to how the video was created, this video didn't really get me excited in any way. It was merely 'ok'. If this is the great future of lore, I'd prefer the niche laps of text in the backgrounds/judgement. I don't even care much for when the next one comes out, I'm supposed to be excited...

It wasn't a master piece no, But the art style and general feel, Plus Nasus's awesome voice work carried it to being a very enjoyable video for me,

And as too it seeming simple, have you noticed how many people think it killed off Sivir and Cass? I think they may have been a little to generous in their opinions of some of our fellow players to follow the story,

I suppose that was exactly the effect desired: they wanted to show more a "in-the-moment" narrative, using the glass panels as allusion of what happened. It is not a bad type of narrative, just something particolar. I can agree if you don' t like it, we will see the other cinematics.
