Thoughts and brainstorm on Irelia's lore

With the coming of more lore-focused interactions in the form of champion reworks and updates such as Sivir and Nasus I was thinking about some of the other champions lore, and something jumped out to me about Irelia's lore. In her lore, Irelia is leading the final stand of the doomed Ionian battalion against an overpowering Noxian invasion force. Irelia takes up her father's sword, vowing not to back down or surrender, but is cursed in battle with "Noxian necromancy". She begins to die, but is saved by Soraka and in this resurgance Irelia's blades begin to be commanded by her through telekenesis.

Now, first of all, Riot, you can do better than this. Why the HELL did her blades animate? But that isn't the point here. The point of this post is to look where Irelia's lore is going. With the impending Sion rework and the rescript of his lore, I highly doubt that this "Noxian necromancy" bullshit is gonna fly anymore (Though I have no basis on this). And Sion is the only link of there being any sort of "necromancy" of any kind apart from Urgot... and well... look at him. It ain't clean like Irelia is. What I am really curious about is the fact Irelia's lore is a PERFECT setup for Aatrox.

Why? Because what is Aatrox's MO? He shows up through time at the crucial moment of a battle, and RALLIES the troops just as they are about to break. He does not care about the side, war is a medium to him, and making these victories is his art. Just as the losing side is about to surrender, Aatrox appears and turns the tide, turning their fear into rage and having each man fight with an unspeakable amount of power to emerge victorious. And this... This is exactly what Irelia's lore does.

What seems incredibly interesting to me is the implications of this. What if Aatrox was the cause of Irelia's victory and the animation of her blade? Why is Irelia not filled with rage like Tryndamere and Darius, two of the other champions Aatrox is associated with? The third champion that he is associated with is Jax, and there is suspicion that Jax himself is a Darkin, so in that case Jax would be uncorrupted by Aatrox's fury. Even if this is not what Irelia's lore turns out to be like, I at least think it would be interesting having a skin that represents this concept, that Irelia gave into Aatrox's rage in her time of need and did not stick to her principles of balance, becoming a part of the Syndra/Zed faction of Ionia instead of one of its staunch enemies.

Thoughts?

I've always thought of Irelia to be a sort of accidental Lich; she was brought back from the dead via Soraka's divine power (and possibly the "Noxian Necromancy" you mentioned). They thought they just healed her, but she had actually passed, and her spirit was somehow bound to the blade. I like this idea of perseverance beyond death, and it makes Irelia not only a symbol to rally around but at the end of the day...sort of eerie.

I like your idea of incorporating Aatrox. The only thing is, I think Irelia's story is more about Ionia's struggle against the Noxians, that it transcends death. It might be a little cluttering if they were to include Aatrox's influence. But it might be cool to allude to it.

And I'm all for skin ideas that represent different out-comes/takes on the lore. :) There could be a "Darkin Irelia" or something similar. I'm still waiting for Corrupted Varus...

It's a lore, not a story. Things happen in a mysterious way that no one(alive) to know the detail. The story is based on the lore, and is the made up version of each individual. It's your imagination's job to color the lore, turn it into your own story.

I like the lore being this way, it the same like how clothes make the woman sexy without being a slut, or the picture sometime better without colors.
