The ups and downs of having rotational featured game modes.

Ups:

~The game is more interesting, with things changing every time at the end of the week. ~The people who aren't passionate about the competitive scene/ranked have something to do. ~It keeps the game from getting dull during patches of unbalance. ~Likely an increase in number of players on the weekend. ~And the biggest one, Riot is listening to what fans wanted. People will no longer have to make post after post complaining about how rare the game modes are.

Downs:

~It will detract attention from the competitive scene/ranked. ~Longer queue times for all other game modes on the weekends, whereas before weekends were when the wait times were shortest. ~Featured game modes will not be as special. We can't really expect them to do things like pro tournaments of U.R.F, or anything like that, because it won't be incredibly special, and it will only last around 2-4 days.

These are my thoughts. What are yours?

I think that game mode should come and go rather than always be statically available.

The only real question is how often/when that should rotate. A different game mode every weekend? That seems like too much rotation. You play it a few times one weekend and then it is gone until... when? Seasonal rotation is what I would prefer because you get the opportunity to play the mode for a few weeks at least. You can tell your friends about it and invite them the next weekend because it is still being played. The only real problem seems to be that many players want to play their favorite game mode all year round.

So I think that randomly rotating game modes every week is just annoying and even though RIOT is giving the players something they asked for it might not be what is best for the game.
