I designed a user interface feature that could help players share timers, etc. (Mock-ups inside)

Hello, there. I'm risemix, and I'm a bit of a user interface and design nerd. Well, actually, that's an enormous understatement. I'm the guy who spends hours choosing my wallpaper and making icons. It has been something of a personal hobby for most of the time I've had a computer.

I really want to tackle the subject of timers in League of Legends. It's a pretty sensitive issue: there's a camp on one side who really thinks more information should be displayed in the client, and there's the camp that believes that timing buffs is game sense, and a skill to be honed. I'm in both camps, and I think there can be a system that satisfies both of me (wait, that didn't come out right).

...

Anyway, it can also be easy to use, effective, and empower players to share information with their teams without forcing them to backtrack through the chat log to obtain them.

To meet these demands, I designed a system concept I'm calling "Notes." Notes is an extension of the in-game chat module that displays up to five (5) pieces of player information above the minimap. Note that this is merely a concept and not a mod!

To use Notes, click on the new "Notes" button below the chat box.

Type what you wish to share, and press Enter on your keyboard. It's just like using chat, and as such, you can use slash commands: "/n text" will create a new note in the first available slot. You can also use /n1, /n2, /n3, /n4, and /n5 to send your Note to a specific Notes slot as well.

In this example, Udyr has just slain the Blue Golem and wants to share its respawn timer with his team:

Once he has entered this command, his Note appears above the minimap. Once Udyr has shared a new Note, he and his team are unable to share a Note again for 15 seconds.

Later in the game, Udyr informs his mid laner, Ryze, that he'll need the second blue buff. In response, Ryze posts a Note of his own:

Note that the number below Ryze's portrait is "2." This is because Ryze is using the second Notes slot, and not because he is level 2!

Unfortunately, Ryze is not only engaging in Toxic behavior, but he is abusing the Notes system. Good news: muting toxic Summoners also mutes their Notes:

Muted players can still use the Notes system, since not everyone on the team has muted them. Notes stay in use until released by you or another member of your team (by using it again).

Nice concept! However I would make the notes fade in and out on mouseover of a small button next to the minimam or on a keyboard shortcut. Screen space is premium in a MOBA.
