What makes a support?

Hello Summoners! Sometime ago my friend and I had an argument when I mixed my main champion and main role to creat the abomination I call "Supgot" (Urgot support). The argument was mostly about "Supgot" but in this argument a question came up. I want to ask you that same question and I want to hear your opinion. The question is: "What does a champion needs to be able to fill the role of support?" Thanks for taking your time to read it and please tell me your opinion in the matter.

Support's true role is to give everything in lane to the ADC and protect him. Everything else that defines a Support branches off of that. Since they are gold starved from that, they purchase utility and tank items because they are cheaper and more efficient without other expensive items. They focus on wards because it lets the carries use their gold on stats. Their kit needs to work with less gold too, which is why they often have good CC and bad damage.

When you play Support by sharing CS and gold and building damage, you're not actually a Support, just in a duo lane.

Imagine your ADC as an item, if you leave him, you are selling him to the enemy team.

Do not sell your ADC to the enemy team.

For a champ to suffice as a support, some people might say that they need to be able to shield, heal or provide some kind of utility/buff to an ally; however, i think that is not necessary as long as they have significant CC and base damage (e.g. NautilusBlitzcrankAnnie). Champs like Brand and Taliyah can also be played as supports (although that's stretching it a little). I do not consider champs like Katarina and Urgot to be supports though.
