Experiences from being postive in champ select chat

Hey All!

So I was wondering what some other people's experiences have been when talking in the chat as a positive presence?

So far I've found that being nice in champ select encourages friendly chatter. I can't lie, there have been times where someone took the opportunity to be a toxic player from the get go summoner 3 but, for the most part it's worked out very well for me. I feel like you get a chance to develop a sense of camaraderie from the start.

Anyone have any good stories about positive banter in their champ select? I'd like to think that it isn't always filled with trolls or toxic players. With such a large community base there has to be a lot of good eggs in there too! item 2009 Cookies for positivity!

Back when I was trying to get to gold, I was convinced that me going, "Hey! I'd like to play mid and top, but I can fill anywhere! Lets keep our heads, and do our best!". I would copy and paste that every game, and after I got to gold, I kindof developed a new way of doing it but much less obviously.

Nowadays I just kindof pick a guy on my team, and go "Hey! (enter name of guy here)! How have you been!?".

By that point the guy is like "uh do I know you?"

I then reply with "Nope! Just wondering how you have been".

It's corny but I think it brings everyones mood up without really forcing pressure to perform upon the game. But thats just how I do it.

It does seem to promote a much calmer game, and generally better results.

I usually play with one or two guys in my ranked team, who all also have the 'sir' prefix. Usually allows for some great banter, usually starting with "hmmmm I wonder if you guys are a pre-made".

Best time was when I qued up with 2 of aforementioned friends and, I shit you not, the two randoms also had 'sir'. Granted it's not the most uncommon thing to see but both parties had a great time in pre-game chat, during the game and even though we lost we all friend-ed each other out of the sheer ridiculousness.

I've theory crafted with a few players both friend and ally. I've had an about-life conversation with someone (had a family emergency that game that I had to AFK for, but it was shortly dealt with and I was back.)

Hope those are snickerdoodles.

Annie I've found that after rounding myself out in all roles, still maining support and mid when I can, I'm actually quite happy to fill any lane, no matter what pick I am. It may be an uncomfortable thought to even bring up the possibility of not getting your best role, but it seems to me that if you at east say something along the lines of: "Hey everyone, prefer mid lane." or something like that, and, assuming your first pick: someone else calls mid lane. I'm usually more than happy to give that up for that person and take my other role. (Though that may just be more comfortable for me in general as I'm a support main and...well...no one ever wants to support) I guess in the end, I'm just very willing to cooperate and make sure that my teammates are more comfortable with their lane picks than I am, since I consider myself to be a fairly flexible summoner. People tend to instantly respect you more when you give up a lane for them, and it's even gotten me first blue buff to a jungle lee sin when I played mid Annie. (Had called jungle first that game, but gave it up for lee as he seemed to really want it. We won that by the way.) So yeah, that's my little...contribution to thread. Have a good day, Summoners. :D

I try to be as positive as possible, whether or not a "toxic" player exists in my game. I know that may sound hokey, but it's true -- I want to have the best time possible while playing.

I've ended up making a lot of friends just by having random conversations -- about Summoner Names, various Champions, getting advice, etc. Sometimes they've even turned out to be Rioters.

One of the more enjoyable ones was when I was in a lobby for ARAM and our game got locked during the "Prepare for Battle" thing, where the game turns over from champ select to loading. We had a Teemo on our side who had the astronaut skin, so we took turns creating a random story about how Teemo got to the moon. There was some other crazy banter about our other champions interacting with Moon Teemo...this went on for about five or six minutes.

It was a great way to not complain about server issues. If I find out that I saved the story, I'll post it.

If you're playing ranked (at least in low elo), you know it will be a good game once everyone agrees on a position. Such as people calling out mid when they're last pick, and them actually getting it (which is very rare).

I actually just played a game where I was Sivir, and had Janna as support. Not only did the Janna play to perfection (at least in Silver standards), she was an awesome sport from champ select to the game finish screen. In fact, my entire team stayed cool, calm, and collected. Not something you usually see in a low elo game, but it does happen (although, I'm pretty sure its because we all knew we had a FAR better team comp (Speedy AoE CC comp vs a pick comp)).

I say hi and copy and paste a cute bunny into champ select because bunnies make everyone happy :) ... not even joking it seems to calm people down and create a better enviroment.

Most games I end up pulling people together because I'm the only one that communicates :/ I don't know why, but when I explain "They're all at top, we need to do drag" and then we get a quick drag, it works better than just spamming the assistance ping for a worthless 1 minute as the enemy moves to take dragon.

People are idiots, and it becomes difficult to get them to pay attention sometimes, but when it works we can easily snowball out of being behind.
