i know everyone thinks the system is perfect and if you are good you win but really. I try hard to blame my elf for all my losses but when i look at my stats and score its just hard to. when your below a certain mmr it kind of becomes a game of chance for me depending on if i have a troll or how hard other lanes will lose.

I'm no way an expert on this subject, but after being bronze for two seasons, I finally managed to climb from bronze 4 to silver 3 in the span of a few weeks. This may not be the most spectacular thing in the world, but I felt pretty good about myself and did actually learn a lot about the game in that time period. Here are some things to keep note of when you are playing your ranked games:

  1. First and foremost, you really only need to be winning more than 50% of your games to climb. The matchmaking system tries it's hardest to forcefully give you a .500 record (or as close to possible as it could be). The idea is that if you are winning and losing approximately the same number of games, you're in a good spot. Unless you have been on a massive losing streak lately, as long as you're winning more than 50% of your games, your LP gain is going to be significantly higher than your LP loss when you lose, and you will climb.

  2. In season 3, I started ranked play at bronze 5 and climbed to bronze 1. In season 4, I started at bronze 4 and climbed to silver 3. I know exactly how you feel when you say that trolls seem all to prevalent. Honestly they are unavoidable. However there are steps that you can take to attempt to alleviate the distress these trolls cause the entire team in game -Lots of times trolls are the result of a misplay or missed call. For consistency's sake do your best to watch your minimap and call out all MIAs, whether it is from your lane or not. Make effective use of pings, rather than typing (because typing takes lots of time and can distract you from whatever you are currently doing). By doing this, the only person the troll can really blame when they die to that gank is themselves. You alerted them that someone on the enemy team isn't where they should be, and they should have played accordingly. That being said, NEVER tell the troll that it was their fault they died. This could spark an argument, further distracting you from play and possibly escalating things. Instead, ignore the flame (never be afraid to mute your teammates if they aren't saying anything that is pertinent to the game) and always be ready apologize and offer that it was your mistake (even if it really wasn't).

  3. KDA isn't the end-all-be-all of ranked games. I just played my first ranked game of the season the other day and lost despite the fact that I went 11/5/7 as Azir and was the only one on my team to break 200 cs in a 30 minute game. However, my bot lane went 0/15 and 2/9 respectively and the Graves on the opposing team ended up being 24/3 and straight up hard carried his team to victory. Most players would say "Oh well, bot lane fed again, I can't carry these feeders." Those players are usually very wrong. As a mid laner, I realized that my mistake stemmed from my failure to rotate bottom and alleviate the pressure on their lane. Maybe I couldn't have killed the Graves when I ganked, but maybe I could have forced a flash or at the very least, forced the Graves to play passively for a few moments while my bot lane regained lane presence and cs. Additionally, I should have taken every opportunity possible to gank bottom with my jungler. Strength exists in numbers. The more people present for the gank, the more damage dealing and CC abilities you have to offer increasing the effectiveness of the gank. -It is always necessary to possess a global presence in League of Legends. I've noticed that you play lots of ADC, and that's okay. Just make sure that you don't sit in your lane and afk farm if your team is always fighting or getting caught out. As the ADC of your team, you have an obligation to offer powerful and consistent damage in team fights, especially if your team has no assassin or pick potential. -At the end of the day, you need to snowball your advantage to win. Make sure that if you are ahead of your enemy laner in CS or you get a few kills in lane, you allocate that gold properly. Try not to buy 5 potions every time you back. Instead, save some of the gold and invest in vision for your team. Make sure that you upgrade or swap your trinket out accordingly. Often times as the ADC, you can swap the yellow trinket for the blue one so that you can safely split push and avoid face checking brush. -If you've pushed your lane and taken an early tower, evaluate the safety of farming in that now pushed up lane. You'll be moving into enemy territory and will now be susceptible to quick and easy ganks from the enemy mid laner and jungler. If you and the support have invested in the vision sufficient and you can continue to keep pressure in your lane than feel free to continue the push. This will draw pressure away from everyone else on the team and allow them to catch up if they are behind. If you can't safely farm the lane, make sure to rotate to wherever the help is needed. When you back, instead of heading to bottom lane again, rotate up middle and attempt to push there. Accruing lots of global gold will eventually translate into more items for your team and is a great way to get closer to your next power spike. Make sure that you are spending your gold at regular intervals as well, otherwise you will fall behind. All the gold in the world will be useless if you are not investing it into items. In addition, when you are rotating directly from your lane, feel free to farm jungle camps while they are up to keep your gold-per-minute (GPM) high. Always ask the jungler before you take red or blue buff, especially if you are particularly week and the buff is better suited on another member of your team. -Make sure that you are consistently starving the enemy team of their resources. Know when to sacrifice your own minions to an enemy tower thus starving them of exp and gold. Make sure that when the opportunity presents itself that your team cannibalizes the enemy's jungle farm after you push lanes past the second tier tower. -When you decide that it's time to begin taking dragons (which in the most recent patch aren't really effective until mid-late game anyway) make sure that you have begun to place your vision in the choke areas around and behind the pit at least a minute before the dragon spawns AND that you remove the enemy's vision as well. Having good vision on your team while ensuring the enemy has reduced vision will cut the chances of dragon being stolen, and will allow you to effectively disengage from dragon and begin a team fight if necessary. This part is particularly crucial as an ADC as it will affect your positioning if a fight breaks out. Make sure to never continue damaging dragon if your team cannot successfully secure the objective. If a team fight breaks out and you aren't dealing damage chances are the fight is lost. Additionally, staying in the dragon pit really reduces your chances of escape and makes you a very easy high priority target. When you can, pull the dragon aggro out of the pit so that you have more room to disengage. Always make sure that the dragon aggro is juggled between members of your team in the early game, so that none of you are reduced to dangerously low health thresholds. These strategies also hold true for Baron.

  4. Finally, keep in mind the changes to dragon this season. It no longer offers global gold and therefore isn't particularly efficient until you have strong items. If you see that the enemy team has begun to engage dragon and you don't have the opportunity to contest it because of either lack of vision or a missing smite, do the best that you can to pressure another lane and attempt to trade an enemy tower for the dragon. In low elo, teams will often be afraid to disengage dragon and contest their tower. At the end of the day, this is potentially a free objective for your team and offers a nearly instant payout when compared to dragon. If you have been trading towers for dragons effectively, you needn't worry about contesting the buff until they are attempting their third dragon.

EDIT: TL;DR-At times you may be able to hard carry games which is usually a direct result of your individual score. League of Legends however is a team game. If you really want to increase your chances of winning and climbing ranks, you need to realize that individual mechanics aren't everything and that you have to translate the advantages you gain into advantages for the rest of your team.

BUMP. Other input would also be appreciated, because I'm still making an attempt at climbing and learning as well. Help?
