Took A Break, Need Champ Advice

I got to Gold 3 in ranked queues after being placed in bronze 2 at the beginning of the season. I felt like I hit a wall and just was not improving anymore so I took a break from playing. Picking up my old mains I realized I don't really know them nearly as well as I did before. I was thinking of picking up some new champs to learn and master before starting up ranked again. I have always loved champions who have a lot of outplay potential ie LeBlanc, Zed, Thresh... Anyone have some advice for some champions to learn in the current meta to move up in ranked queues who don't always get banned and who have good outplay potential? Thanks!
