Possible patent violation or stolen content to LoL

It is more than coincidence that what Taric says in League of Legends is a direct quote from the show Jem and the Holograms.

A simple stop on youtube and you will hear the quote taken word for word. Jem and the Holograms was released from 1985 - 1988, so it predates league by decades.

As several companies were involved with making this show, you could potentially have crossed many boundaries.

Are you new?

Homages to older shows/games are quite common. Do you know how many pop culture references are in Blizzard games? References and some parodies operate on different rules than other copyright material, not to mention the fact that pursing this one in particular would probably cost more than it's actually worth.

They say that 'you know you've made it big when Robot Chicken parodies you'

That said.. I might have gotten trolled hard. I'll bite.

Isn't there like a 30 year limit to patents? Or was it 70...

I'm sure Riot is aware of this. I'd say at this point, given that Taric was a very early champion and has had the same VO for nearly 5 years, that these companies simply don't care. Furthermore, I doubt Riot could be sued for this anyway, it's not as if the line itself is copyrighted or restricted.

Patent violations: using another persons or entities intellectual property for profit. How is Riot profiting from the quote?
