Is this honestly ban-worthy?

was just suspended for 2 weeks and I'm having a hard time seeing how it was even remotely deserved. I expressed frustration because we had a troll on our team go ad nautilus top. He started hovering Naut with 8 seconds left in champ select, and the only roles left were jungle and top. Naturally, I assumed Nautilus would be going jungle, since he is not traditionally a top laner. After we had both locked in, he typed in chat 'AD Nautiulus Top'. I told him if he did that I'd report him, hoping it would compel him to take smite and go jungle. It did not, so I asked the enemy team to report him. Since he refused to jungle, I went smiteless jungle gnar. It was not even a little bit fun, so I kept trying to get the team to surrender. This annoyed them to the point that they reported me for negative attitude, but I contest that any negative attitude was due to a) my team refusing to surrender or ever group anywhere near me and b) our troll top laner forcing me to go smiteless jungle on a champion i've never jungled with before. In post-game lobby, the Nautilus even had the gall to tell people I called him the N-word in game, which you can very clearly see I did not do. I never swore at him, I never raged, I never stopped playing. All I did was express dismay at how unwinnable the game was. My Lux told the enemy team I was 'uncooperative', but I was never given any kind of strategic instruction to cooperate with in the first place. The only thing I can even partially see as being mean was when I said 'You can't possibly be this dumb' in response to him telling me AD Naut works because "auto attacks, son". But even the context of that makes it clear that I'm legitimately saying I know you're not stupid, so you're just saying that to troll.

Anyway, here's the chat log. I explain the specific game-relevant reasons why I want to surrender, so I don't really see how you can call it 'negative attitude' without conceding that I have a point as it pertains to this specific game. Also, the Naut even says in chat something to the effect of "I wanted to jungle, but you forced my hand so I had to be top laner"

if you guys can report our nautilus i'd appreciate it he's going ad and he refuses to jungle AFTER we locked in you didnt even HOVER nautilus until there were 8 seconds left and if the 2 options left are top and jungle and i see a naut, i'm absolutely going to assume he's jungle because naut never tops no you didnt you had said nothing in chat before hovering naut and the hover began at 8 seconds just ff at 20 and report naut it's bad enough that he refuses to jungle but nautilus has zero ad scaling every single champion in the game has auto attacks you cannot possibly be this dumb therefore you are trolling and getting reported i'm just gonna jungle til we ff, report naut ggwp ty bb his explanation for why ad naut works: "he has auto attacks, son" i'm not being a dick we have a troll not to mention he's feeding ekko blue? DEMAGLIOOOOO guys we have a troll ad naut surrender vote #2 fails 1 to 4.... we have a troll ad nautilus no i will not shut up because WE HAVE A TROLL AD NAUTILUS AND YOU ARENT SURRENDERING you want to stop listening to me, vote yes surrender vote #3 fails 1 to 4 this whole team is going to lose BECAUSE WE HAVE A TROLL AD NAUTILUS surrender vote #4 fails 1 to 4 my teammates legitimately dont understand that we have a troll ad naut i can 1v1 zed but people keep showing up to help him surrender vote #5 fails 1 to 4 i will chill when i no longer have to play this joke of a match once again, we have a troll ad nautilus and because of him, we have no smite therefore, they are guaranteed to win late game because we can't contest baron or 5 drag no you called top AFTER WE BOTH LOCKED IN i said fill in champ select i didn't force shit you hovered naut with 8 seconds left so i took gnar expecting to top lane then after the timer was finished you typed 'ad nautilus top' no you didnt and if you prefer jungle, why did you go top in the first place? you just said you're a jungler not a top laner can't we have no smite .ff surrender vote #6 fails 1 to 4 nobody has asked me to do shit there has been not a single request of 'gnar, please __' so please, explain to me how i can be uncooperative if nothing is asked of me i'm not a dick we have a troll ad naut and he forced me to jungle without smite which you know is not a viable strategy gg report naut

In the old Tribunal (R.I.P.) I would have voted PUNISH against you.

What you did wrong:

  1. Called for reports (that's a form of intimidation)
  2. Failed to communicate with your team: You obviously didn't ask where he was going in champ select or left that detail out. Simply because he chose to play a champ in an unusual way isn't a banworthy offense. Your lack of communication with regard to the situation is, however, punishable.
  3. Continually spammed the chat and were moderately toxic. We got it, you were frustrated, but at what point do you just suck it up and play the game?

You said, in champ select, he said "AD Naut Top", so why not then chose smite on Gnar and deal with it.

I'm not saying he was totally in the right, but the way you REACTED to it was just absurd and childish. You threw a temper tantrum in chat and now you're getting punished for it. Your two week ban wasn't JUST for that game, it was simply that the game in question was the one that put you over the edge.

I'm actually blown away that you don't see what you did wrong. Hopefully you learn from this and come back a more positive member of the community.

Yeah I was hit too. Riot biggest piece of shit company ever. If you get trolled and you talk to your teammates about being trolled and to report the troll you are toxic. Gg shit riot.

The only thing that annoys me about this situation is how the Nautilus will likely be the one to not get punished. He was obviously trolling, but when anyone expresses their dismay at the situation they get reported. Not saying flaming people is right no matter what they do, but there has to be some sort of mutual thing here. Yes, he should be punished accordingly in this situation, but we all know the Nautilus is going to walk scott free and troll more games.

But if that's the case, how is it even remotely helpful to provide THIS chatlog as the ONLY one in the email telling me I've been banned for 2 weeks? And nobody has EVER told me before that it's frowned upon to ask the enemy team to report. I do it all the time if I have a troll on the team, and this is the first I'm hearing that I'm not supposed to.

u threatened them.... u even admit to threatening them....

he typed in chat 'AD Nautiulus Top'. I told him if he did that I'd report him, hoping it would compel him

let me give you an example....

a mobster goes to a shop owner and tells them, unless you pay me i will destroy your shop you told a player unless they do what you want, you will cause a negative action to occur....

oh, and this is on top of insulting them ... so yes if this is typical behavior it is ban worthy

I'm sorry, but I just don't see what's wrong with telling him in champ select that I will report him if he goes ad nautilus top instead of going jungle. We have 2 champs: Gnar and Nautilus. And you guys are telling me that rather than try to get the ACTUAL JUNGLE CHAMPION to go jungle, I should have just said "Fine, I'll take smite and do something I've never done before even if it means the team is functionally defective if I do so"?

I can see the argument if he was, I don't know, Swain. Then there's no right answer for who helps the team the most in the jungle. But if that were the case I never would have, in the 7 seconds I had to pick a champion, assumed he was jungling.

negative attitude and a bit toxic? yes worthy of a 2 week ban? no

Sythriel Draken6/11/2015, 11:14:01 PM1 votes

I don't think it's ban worthy. Riot is not hitting the real reason for all this toxicity and that is at the start of the champion selection. Because of the leaverbuster we are at the mercy of these trolls, who in turn make our games bad and why play a game where we aren't having fun. there also needs to be active punishments for griefers

"This whole team is going to lose" was in response to being called a loser. Does it make sense why I believe you're wrong about me threatening my team now?

The Coup De Grace of this thread - http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=ICROCKETS

#1 Damage on your team: Nautilus.
Most CS on Team: Nautilus. You accused him of being a troll due to his build, but he out performed your entire team. You were so focused on what went wrong in champ select that you ruined the game for your team. You were lowest in damage to champs. Learn from the experience. Come back more positive.

seattlebudzz6/11/2015, 11:15:08 PM1 votes

You were indeed trolling.

ICRockets6/11/2015, 10:59:30 PM1 votes

But I did deal with it. I didn't feed, I didn't rage, I didn't swear at the guy, I didn't afk. I kept playing the game. I vented my frustrations and I explained to my team the reasons why I wanted to surrender. Without a smite, they have total baron/dragon control. We can't win a game if we can't contest neutral objectives AND we have 2 champions playing off-role (one of them intentionally troll building). That's not being negative, it's just the reality of LoL.

ICRockets6/12/2015, 12:33:49 AM1 votes

And I have no problem with consequences for what I did if it's wrong. But since I didn't know it was wrong, and now I do, what does a 2 week suspension teach me that a ranked bag and chat restriction don't accomplish?

Eyeburn6/11/2015, 10:53:32 PM1 votes

It's a f2play game. It's almost summer time. You will encounter the dredges of the internet in your games (kids, tweens, most high school kids with nothing but LoL to pass the weekend).

Grit your teeth and deal.

Sarutobi6/11/2015, 11:01:11 PM1 votes

asking the enemy team is frowned upon, and while i dont think its worthy of a ban, some type of punishment like chat restriction would have been better. Now i dont know if its possible, but usually dont they have the time stamps on your chat? that would help also if you kept talking in game instead of playing.

Also note that this might not have been that "main" reason why you were ban, they usually stack with other reports filled against you, this was probably just the most recent one. For all we know you could have been extremely toxic in the game before this, or even days/weeks before that. it will catch up with you eventually and it seems now Riot finally caught up with some type of punishment for you!

Colgate Gator6/11/2015, 11:07:26 PM1 votes

How dare you diss Crit Naut.

Zarxis6/11/2015, 11:13:56 PM1 votes

Yes, OP, what you did is reportable. Threatening to report people if they don't do what you want them to (+ constantly blaming them for the state of the match) is verbal harassment. Claiming that you'd stay in the jungle until your team agreed to surrender could qualify as griefing (assisting enemy team). That you were displaying behavior worthy of "negative attitude" reports is unquestionable. That Lux that said you were "uncooperative" was absolutely correct— you refused to (or acted like you refused to) play the match through just because someone played AD Nautilus top. What that Nautilus did is not reportable; as long as he was trying to win and wasn't doing anything that was actually against the rules (ex: verbal abuse, intentional feeding, etc.), he was entitled to build Nautilus however he saw fit and use him in whatever roles were available.

I don't know exactly what this Nauty said or did in-game, but the act of playing champions with unusual roles/builds is not reportable in and of itself.
