Inactive Championship Riven codes

So I went to a LCS game today and in the shop they had a promotion going. The promotion was that the first 35(ish) people to spend 75$ got a free statue of Ryze and Tryndamere (The limited edition one from season 3 that they only made 10,000 of). I was really interested in the statue so I bought 75$ and got it. When I looked at the box it was in there was a code for Championship Riven included. I have played a lot of riven over the last few months and desperately wanted this skin, but accepted I would probably never get it without buying an account with the skin, which I never planned on doing, so when I saw this skin code I literally freaked out and jumped up super excited because I thought I was getting the skin as part of the deal. Then I went home and tried the code to find that it was inactive. My question now is why would Riot give away a code for a skin that doesn't work? I was super excited to finally have this skin and when it didn't work it really sucked. Is there some sort of purpose of them giving this out? They have to have realized people would be getting their hopes up thinking the code would work, so why would they do it if it wasn't supposed to work? Am I just missing something really obvious?

All skin codes are deactivated and no longer produced (for the most part, not including when they produce them for events. Those are deactivated soon after the event though) due to scams and third party sites vastly overcharging for them. I don't think it'll work, but you can try submitting a Support Ticket with the code card and all proof you have of where you got it. Again, this is a long shot, but it's the only shot you have.

Thank you for your recommendations, I submitted a ticket and asked if there was any way they could activate the code. Hopefully they can, also the card does say it includes that icon Bunta, I'd also be super excited to get that, it's one of my favorite icons.

I am 50% certain that Riot had deactivated League of Legends cards that had rare skins attached (i.e. Championship Riven) removed from the system. Reason were sites had these cards, were selling them for cheap but also were scams.

After looking into it a bit I saw they had deactivated the cards, I just do not know why they would give these cards out at an event if they can not be used, it makes no sense to raise a person's hopes up and then have them find out the card is worthless =(

Everything Valkyrie said was spot on! But the thing is was it just the code on a piece of paper, or the actual Riven card? I mean ive never been to an LCS event, but i assume that riot takes these things seriously and giving out promo cards only to have them inactive seems pretty bad, because of people like you who may have wanted something like this.

Again though do what Valkyrie says and contact support, with all the evidence you have like a receipt of the products, maybe the name of the person who sold it to you, as well as the card and code. they should help you out and i would assume that if the code hasnt already been used by someone else then theyll unlock the skin for you since you do own the card!

Also note if it doesnt work out they have stated that they'd be releasing the skin probably next year (end of season 6) since we will finally have bundle of 5 championship skins. so if anything you only need to wait till next year so its not that long. All in all its an awesome skin, plus youll probably get the icon im using as well which is nice!
