Tales of Runeterra (1)

The country of Runeterra was not always glamorous and full of life. Nope, that wasn't until after the Rune Wars. Not much was ever said of them and to be honest I never really thought on it. Warwick always told me it was lost to never be seen again. I never usually cared what he said, he always tried to bring logic to reason. Guess that what he believes. He never talks to me much, now that he tries to stay in his room and do dumb experiments all day everyday, so I don't see much of him anymore. Life is hard when you don't want to be annoyed by your little brother.

My name is Ayleth, I'm only 15 (5 years younger than Warwick) and am by now use to living in his shadow. He's always been good at everything; whether it be school, athletics, or... anything. I'm just his little brother, but nothing more. I'm about five feet tall (shorter than my brother) and have dark grey hair like him as well.

Today is Friday, it wasn't very nice and sunny out side. It's very rare the city of Zaun ever gets a sunny day.

"Ayleth!" Warwick came into my room, a grin gleamed off his face. "I have a favor to ask you."

He then showed me to his room. It was dark and ominous. The ere feel gave a shiver down my spine. His room was just as big as mine, only books were stacked here and there and papers were scattered in places he usually would be; such as his bed or desk. A sudden gleam from a small shard hit my eyes.

“Okay, Ayleth," Warwick started while putting on gloves, “I'm going to need you to wear this for a while."

"What is it?" I asked, hesitant.

"You'll see..." He then put it around my head. The shard was attached to a thread big enough for someone to wear.

I felt a sharp pain in my chest, first, that spread all all over at once. I tried to push Warwick away but the shard was now all the way around my neck. I let out a scream and fell to my hands and knees. The pain found it's way throughout my whole body. I managed a glimpse at my brother who only stared back with cold eyes. Then, everything went black...

I awoke later in my bed. The pain wasn't there. It seemed like a bad dream, until...

"So, this is my new body?"

I sat up. The voice didn't come from anywhere.

"Who's there?" I asked.

Warwick opened the door. "Ayleth, seems like you lived. How do you feel?"

"Who are you?" came out of my mouth before I even knew it.

"Warwick, what did you do to me?" was all I could ask when it said "I also would like to know." I then covered my mouth with my hands.

He then started, "do you remember the shard I put on you?" I nodded. "Well, it was a special shard that held a spirit of a wolf, that died from a lightning strike. Legend says that a sorcerer charmed the beast with the blast and made a shard out of the remains. He was then going to give it to one of his rivals to torture him for some betrayal. But, before he could do such a thing, he lost the shard in a river and it was never to be seen again."

I asked, "then how did you find i–"

"The dumb idiot made me to be stuck to whoever put me on for the rest of their life."

"Then,–"

"Yes, I'm the wolf."

Warwick then continued, "I heard of the shard in a small tale of the sorcerer's travels, and sought it out. Found it, and using gloves brought it back to test it."

"If you will be so kind as to pardon my leave, I must be off. I haven't eaten anything in years."

Then, my body went numb. I couldn't feel or do anything but watch from the background. I had now changed into the beast and as fast as a bullet, found myself running through the wood.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"Hunting."

It didn't take him long to find something to eat, and after a couple of minutes in letting it settle he finally said, "now that I'm done, you can have your body back."

I could feel again. I was again in control. I wasn't the wolf no more. I got up, and looked around. I was lost.

"How can you be lost?" asked the wolf. "And my name is not wolf, though I'm sure you cannot pronounce it, just call me Gruff."

"Gruff?" I asked. He then asked what I needed, and I replied, "How do I get back?"

"Just follow that smell that comes from your home."

"I can't smell that, this far off." I began to lose hope.

"Fine, use my nose." And that's when I began to smell everything. But, it made me dizzy just smelling so much. But, I was able to smell iron, off in the distance. I started running as fast as I could only to run into a tree in a second. "What's the matter with you? Don't just run as fast as you can. You aren't use to the power, yet."

"Power?" I asked. He then sighed, and again took over. Again, I felt nothing, and he ran, in seconds, back to my house. "Now, I will allow you to use my nose for a second. Smell the house." He then lowered his head and I took a whiff.

"Smell it?" he asked.

"Yeah."

Warwick then came out as I changed back. He then smiled. "You inspired me, Ayleth. I think I know what I should try for my next experiment."
