got an s on a champ and didnt get any token...
how do i get my token? or did i just get screwed out of getting it at all

that champ has to have level 5 mastery then u can start getting tokens.
Did you get level 5 the same match as that s ranking? And have you checked your hextech crafting page for it?
I believe you have to be playing on SR to get tokens. Something about how other maps/modes are less balanced and don't properly demonstrate mastery of the champion in a way that translates back to the core gameplay mode.
Were you playing the Legend of the Poro King game mode? If so, that's why. You cannot earn mastery tokens on that game mode. And it seems like you shouldn't be able to earn them on other rotating game modes either.

Just as in any rotating queue game mode, we’ve specially tuned Champion Mastery so you can earn points in the mode. You’ll also be able to earn keys for your wins and loot chests for your (or your premade’s) S-, S, and S+ games. Unlike other Champion Mastery-enabled queues, rotating game modes DO NOT reward mastery tokens towards levels 6 and 7.
