In LoL a team is defined as a collection of individuals who share a common goal. However how they meet this goal is determined by the individuals themselves.

First off one should always place his needs before the teams. Basically your self interest should be anything that plays in your favor. Ones individual needs in LoL can be defined as:

  1. Doing anything that gives you a economical advantage.
  2. Doing anything that brings you closer to your ultimate goal, which is to win the game.
  3. Doing anything in which allows you itemize.

In the instance in which ones self interests correspond to that of the team, he/she needs to be resourceful and use the given situation as means to achieve his or her self interests. A situation that does not meet the individuals self interests or needs is one that a)does not achieve the ultimate goal b) satisfy the individuals needs and c) provide a economic advantage.

Second, every individual is valuable. This even includes supports.

Next any play that results in a death should be reconsidered. The point is to make good solid plays that results in you not dying. For example lets say your team engages in a play in which offers zero chances of surviving, don't be foolish and yolo with them. Remember if it does not satisfy your individual needs or the ultimate goal then it is completely irrelevant to you.

Finally in conclusion everyone has a job. The moment you called adc or mid is the moment in which you accepted the responsibilities and demands of that given role. If one understands how to play adc yet doesn't understand the sole of purpose of it ,and how it translates to the ultimate goal, should first educate him or her self about the role and the conditions behind it. Furthermore a knowledgeable player is one who is capable of fulfilling his or her job while remaining able to achieve his or her needs and self interests.
