Diamond player MID lane guide :)

Hey what's up guys, I wanted to post an informative mid lane guide that hopefully helps you guys and is useful :)

Below I’ve broken down mid lane into essential groups where I guarantee if you are to just focus on one of them, you’ll probably gain at least 1-2 tiers. Last post I made, some people messaged me saying it was a bit long, so I’ll try my best to condense it and then answer each specific question people have in regards to champs/decision making etc. So the parts are as follows: Laning, pressure, roaming, teamfighting/splitpushing.

-----> Laning: This is probably one of the most influential parts of mastering mid lane. Knowing matchups and how to play around them. A lot of this you could find on websites like Championselect, but imo, ‘counterpicks’ aren’t as influential as they might be for other lanes like top. Aside from counterpicking, it’s knowing the matchup and knowing when to trade. Watching the creep wave is very important and out of every player I’ve coached/helped below diamond, they tend to find this one most useful. There are a lot of things you should watch as a mid laner: minimap, wards placements, your cs, enemy cs’ing and cooldowns. The best time to go in for a trade is when you know they are going for a cs/cannon. All in'ing level 2 if possible and playing around cooldowns is key to winning trades, especially if you have ignite. But before doing so, look at their starting items. If they have flask, pots, you need to realize they will likely out sustain you, so your best bet is to all in when having a calculated opportunity. Time enemy laners wards/summoners and cooldowns. Go all in when you see you have the creepwave with you and when you have the cooldown advantages.

------> Pressure/roaming/: This is something that was kind of emphasized ever since Faker broke into the season post s3. Pressure is something that isn't necessarily tangible and easy to see and do. A good definition of having lane pressure is; by influencing their decisions on the map and limiting them to a certain play style you can take advantage of. For example: Pushing the lane and warding. Pushing the lane and roaming. Almost every time I play mid, I tend to push the lane to take advantage of the map and provide pressure to either bot or top. This is obviously situational, but imo when you know you don’t have much kill pressure on the lane, just shove out the wave and take a camp, drop a deep ward, help take scuttle etc. Sweeping/pink warding lane to provide map pressure/eliminate vision from enemy team is very key as well. Literally every back I make (unless I have barely enough for my item), I get a pink ward and drop it on the side my team is winning or that we’re stronger on. For example, if my bot lane is winning, I’ll opt to place the pink in the river brush or side brush toward bot lane and vice versa for top. Tp pressure is something that I should talk about now since everyone's taking it. It's like TF. You can push your lane, pressure other lanes by being off the map. Most of the time in solo queue, no one will pay attention or even call mis (and if they do, it tends to be late), so abuse that by porting to wards/flanking behind enemy bot lane /top and most importantly, ping and make sure to use your jungler in the process. Ask him to come help dive (bot or top) and tell the lane to push the wave if you plan on diving. Diving would only be suggested if you’re ahead or if you know you outnumber them, but I would suggest deep warding before hand. Deep wards are so strong it’s ridiculous.

------> Teamfighting/Spliting: This is probably the most already understood, so I just want to emphasis on what your team comp does and how you fit in with this because often, I get players or see solo queue games of teams playing their comp incorrectly. If you're a zed and your team is losing, You probably want to keep splitting. Think of yourself as a resource and ask yourself, what’s the most efficient sort of play I can make here, how can I utilize myself for the best outcome. If you’re a tf, regardless of your team fighting ability, split, force someone to come to you, and then look to engage a fight with your ulti. It’s important to understand what your champion does and how to play it around your team comp/resources. Splitting is very good if you’re behind, but also good if your ahead if you use it correctly. Look at the enemy team comp and figure out how you could die if you were to split. Sometimes there won’t be many gap closers that can kill you even 1v2 and if that’s the case, keep splitting and forcing the enemy team to panic and fall apart while your team is on the other side of the map. A note to yourself is to buy the double green ward trinket. This shit is op and so cost effective it’s ridiculous especially if you are to split. Lastly, try to save your tp’s for significant plays. I literally got out of a game seeing someone tp to bot wave farm that the ad was already about to reach. T_T I personally only use tp’s for farm if it’s pre 7 min, after that I save it for bot lane most of the time or top if he needs a countergank.

That about wraps things up for now. Hope this wasn't too short or too long, I wanted to keep it brief because I know most questions are very champion specific, and I don't mind answering everyone's questions! I'm 100% sure if you guys follow at least 2-3 tips and focus on your game play only, you'll see improvement in your rank in a few days. If you guys have any specific questions like last time, I'll try to answer each and every one. Thanks for the time to read this and I hope it was useful! See you guys next time and please give me suggestions of what else you guys want me to do. :)
