The most ironic thing i've come across in this game

I actually do better as Swain when I do really badly early vs when I do really well early. it's incredibly ironic and entirely backwards, but 9 of 10 times this is the case. why? because when I get fed early on swain, I snowball HARD (if you play swain you know what im talking about). after seeing my snowballage, the enemy team will almost invariably do everything in their power to shut me down. and I mean everything. to the point where you would think that it was the goal of the game. screw the freaking nexus, shut swain down. anyways, usually I ultimately end up actually being negative or having so many deaths I might as well be.

however, when I do bad early game, people tend to ignore me. the habit is already in place that a behind champ isn't a problem, but it's helped even more by the fact that most people see swain as a dps tank more than a high damage sustain bruiser. even a behind swain can nuke your squishies pretty hard, but people don't pay attention to that in teamfights. they just think X carry on your team is dealing all that damage about half the time, and the other half of the time they think it was sheer luck. rarely do they actually realize "oh crap this guy still does something even though hes like 2 7". from there, you slowly start to get ahead, picking up assists all over the place from your aoe and kills every once in a while as well until suddenly you're legendary and you 1v5 quadra their team. and live. don't think I'm exaggerating, I've gotten that far ahead from being that far behind multiple times.

so am I just weird or is this a common occurrence on other swain players? (or any other champ for that matter).
