"It's just a game"
I'm really tired of seeing this divide in the community. The divide I'm talking about is the "Just a game" crowd and the people who play to win. I understand that different people play this game so it makes sense that there is a line of demarcation between different groups, but goddamn do I want to illustrate this and start a discussion.
Yes League of Legends: Clash Of Fates is a video game, it's a game. Just a game. This is true, but to some people that has different meanings then others. A game is a situation with two opposing sides with opposing goals. "Take their thing" "Get our thing to their thing" "Take their thing to ours" the list goes on and on. That's a game. To some different games are more fun; different visuals, faster play styles, more interactivity, whatever. That doesn't change the fact that some people play this game and enjoy it, but why do some of us play when some consider it less then a game after a few minutes?
Have you ever seen a athlete of any kind make a mistake and then just say to a coach "it's just a game chill.". Well let me put it this way, that's a mark of being a straight amateur. Not even in the fact that you don't get payed to play the game, but that you're not playing it with the mindset of a professional. When you do it as a amateur there's a degree of "Oh it doesn't matter it's just a game so I can quit whenever." or some other line of reasoning that puts your level of responsibility on the game down. Losses don't matter because it's a game. This wouldn't even be too much of a problem if the guy's didn't immediately either re-queue for another game. If you queue up for a game you should play the damn game.
So whats playing with the mindset of a professional? Playing to the best of your abilities and not just quitting or giving up on the game. I'm not talking about literally leaving the game, though this does fall under that. I'm talking about literally giving up on it. Leaning back in your chair, playing half halfheartedly because you misplayed that last fight and now you're too far to come back in lane. That shit is not acceptable in some queues. Playing like a professional does not mean becoming the new god mid for TSM. It means playing with the standards of the god mid of TSM. You know there's room for improvement. Once you know the standards, you can practice or improve to those.
What I'm tired of, are people who join games, but don't have the wherewithal to play the game. They get mad because someone talked shit. They get mad because they missed smite. They get mad because things aren't going their way. I just want to let those people know one thing. You don't win by quitting, you don't get diamond/master/challenger by considering a game is over. You don't get any of those things by letting destructive criticism go to your head. You don't get elo by quitting, and if you do, it was because someone picked up your slack 2 fold.
**YOU'RE PLAYING A GAME BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU GET TO BITCH QUIT EVERY TIME THINGS AREN'T GOING YOUR WAY. SIT UP IN YOUR DAMN CHAIR AND PLAY THE REST OF THE GAME OUT. **
TOO MANY GAMES HAVE BEEN THROWN AS OF NOW FOR YOU TO JUST GIVE UP.
