Today I received an automated punishment from leaver buster. The message that comes with it talks about how my behaviour causes a negative experience for players and that I'll be punished further if I continue.

The amount of times I have gone AFK as a percentage of my games, in long or short term, is small. If a human were to look at the games where I went afk, they'd see that it's always as a result of harassment from teammates. If my team has no interest in having a fun experience with me, then why am I expected to care about the damage to their experience by playing a man down? They're the ones who alienated their teammate - I don't think it's unreasonable damage to their experience if a player they chase away leaves. When a person who is playing a game for fun stops having fun due to attacks from their team, why does the system punish that person for taking the logical step of removing them self from the situation?

"Just mute them". Yes, muting helps in some situations. But a big part of the draw to LoL is that it's a team game, and each player that you mute is a big hit to your team's coordination. Muting 1 might be salvageable, but if you need to mute 2 or more you're probably going to lose from lack of communication. Plus, it's not fun to be playing a team game in the dark. And those players can still harass you by sniping camps, KSing, and spamming pings.

Part of the problem is that there is no perceived remedy for players who are harassed. I just discussed how muting a player has all kinds of costs to you. Another part is that it has almost no cost to them - they might not even know that you've muted them (and I'm told its punishable to tell a player you're muting them). For all you know, they're continuing to be toxic and further ruining the atmosphere for your team and in their future games. When you AFK, the cause and effect is pretty clear to them: Harass teammates, lose teammates.

"Just report them" When you report after the game, you have absolutely no knowledge if that report had any affect in any reasonable time frame. You don't even know if that report will be read, or if it's just being looked at by some algorithm like leaverbuster that doesn't consider context. The Tribunal was a brilliant solution to this problem. Players who wanted to make a difference could do so by reading cases. Players knew that their reports were getting read and making a difference by putting toxic players on the chopping block. Players knew that context was being taken into account when the reports were analyzed, so that the punishments would not be contextless and arbitrary like the leaverbuster ones are. Why was such an effective and satisfying system deleted for an as yet unspecified period of time? What is being done to address the concerns that I have raised above? When can we expect to have the tribunal back?

TLDR: Automated, contextless punishments suck. Opaque, 0 feedback reporting system sucks. Bring back the tribunal!

Yeah, I hate being trapped in a game that is obviously a loss with toxic teammates. I wish there was a good solution for it.

I'm positive you'd get the same punishment even if the tribunal were active. I for one would most definitely report you no matter whose team I was on. If you AFK, that isn't helping your team any further then if you were there and not doing anything... Sure, it takes you "out of the situation" but it's causing a bigger problem for them since you're not there. You are making their experience of a 5v5 into a 4v5 (or other various numbers) which can be a lot harder in most cases. It's better just to suck it up and push forward, as that can help the team out more. Sure they might still report you afterward for whatever, but at least that will have less of an effect overall.

I've found that muting people is a great way that helps in most situations. There's still the way of communicating to people with pings which can be a lot more helpful then talking to people as there are a large amount of people that won't listen anyway. Pings can get annoying sure, if they are spammed, but if you can control the way you use them it can be very effective.
