Item Build Paths

With the preseason changes to Null-Magic Mantle and Cloth Armor building into the larger items, are we eventually going to see others, such as the Long Sword and Amplifying Tome, build into larger items as well? Will it eventually get to a stage where every small item builds into something larger, which then builds into a completed item? Any thoughts?
