When a champion is on free rotation, it is your opportunity to try them out. If you liked Zed enough to where you wanted to buy him, then save up Influence Points or buy Riot Points to get him. He is 6300 Influence Points (which is a lot of games to save up for, so be wary that he can be banned if you buy him), AND 975 Riot Points, which is about 10 bucks.
