The key to effective communication is an effective approach.

HEY EVERYONE, I haven't made a post in a couple weeks.

Today's a quick topic, and one I'm sure is going to rub some people the wrong way, about communication, both to each other and to Riot.

The key to a successful conversation between people is not only having good content (either sound logic, truths or statistics) but also good tone and presentation.

First, what is your goal? Is it to simply go on a rant about a champion or issue or item? Go for it. Just realise that it may be unlikely that a Rioter will respond to your post. This doesn't mean they aren't reading through the posts, but it is very difficult to have a good conversation if one party is going to be derogatory the entire time.

On the other hand, your goal could be to start an actual discussion rather than simply a personal rant about something. In this case, if you want Rioter replies, you need to be civil and not simply blame them for "screwing up" or "grubbing money." You and I both know that even when things are a bit wonky, they're doing their best to make League interesting and fun. Mistakes happen. If you want to voice your opinion, go for it--civilly. I promise,** people will listen to you**, they'll open a good discussion, and who knows, you could influence a future change in League.

Secondly, avoid targeted hostility. I know you guys are passionate about the game just like me, and you all want everything to be perfect all the time. However, sometimes, things simply go waaaaay over the top (such as 4.20 Warwick and 5.22 DrMundo ).

Go ahead, complain about these guys! Post about how overpowered they are. Post about what you feel makes them too strong. Post about why they should be hotfixed. This is all valuable feedback. (Posting what you feel would be a good solution is even better!) What is not valuable feedback, however, is simply accusing Rioters of "never listening," or "not caring about what happens." Don't point fingers. It's not cool. It splits you apart from the very group of people you want to talk with. I completely understand the frustration of having to ban a certain champion every game because they dominate competition. It's miserable. However, accusations targeting Rioters as being trash doesn't make them want to chat with you, and most likely, anything they say you'll reject anyway without thought.

Are there times when communication sucks? Absolutely. But the important thing to realise is that it's not just communication failing on Riot's end, but our end as well.

BRING ON THE DOWNVOTES, PEOPLE.
