Queue dodge penalty while in series
Recently, I got to my promos and during one of the games, I had a really bad time in champion select and considered dodging. When I attempted to do so, however, I was warned that dodging during best of 3s or 5s will instantly boot me from the series and force me to get 100LP before i can retry. As far as I know, this is actually the truth. While i personally have never experienced this, from looking at other posts, it seems to be what happens.
The only question is: why?
To me, it would make sense to give players in series or promos free dodge chances instead of giving them extra punishment, and here is why:
1) Why would Riot want to punish players in series more than they do normal players?
When you dodge normally, you get blocked for 5 minutes and you lose three(3) LP. Dodging while in series gets you kicked out, which is probably worth more than 3 LP. Punishing players in series with extra penalties simply does not make sense.
2) Queue dodging is not always an attempt at trolling
Yes its true that some players will try to annoy others by dodging last second. However, sometimes, you get stuck with a team that seems to be falling apart from the very first minute. If you are in a series, this is especially frustrating. And I'm not talking about unorthodox picks. If people want to go jungle vayne, or whatever, they perhaps deserve a chance to prove themselves. No, I'm talking about things like "mid or feed", or people arguing over lanes. In fact, one time, I had a support who said he wanted to take smite in lane, which prompted the top laner to also take lane, and the adc to announce that he gave up and would feed the entire game. This is not the situation you want to be in when you are in series.
"But you don't know that they are serious! maybe they are just trashtalking!"
No, you are right, I don't know what they will do, and that is part of the problem. Do you really want to go in your series with a chance that you'll have three mid laners, or 4 junglers because players did not cooperate in champion select? Besides the chance of encountering this nonsense, arguments in select destroy morale before the game even begins. More often than not, this situation will result in a loss
With this in mind, you can clearly see that there are times where queue dodging is completely justified.
3) Series are different from normal ranked games.
Lets face it: series are more important than normal ranked games, and winning them matters more. And sure, I get that they shouldn't be too easy to win, as they are more or less a test of whether you deserve to rank up. But it should be a test of skill level gameplay wise, not whether you can survive champion select or not. Letting players dodge queues while in series will ensure that the fewer players will lose games due to champion select issues
"But people will abuse it and troll with it"
Fine, limit the dodging to once per day, or give a ranked game block or something like that. That should ensure that players won't abuse their exemptions.
"But trolls in champion select only happen in low elo"
Maybe, but there are plenty of players in low elo that don't troll and are legitimately trying to rank up.
*** 4) My idea of a solution?***
Let players in series or promos dodge queues- with limitations, like once per day, or with temporary blocks after dodge to regulate abuse. This would reduce the number of players being screwed over by champion select.
TL;DR Basically , i guess my point is that the current penalty for dodging while in series/promos is quite unreasonable. Instead of extra punishment, players in series should get extra privileges for making it into series. (series are hard)
Well.. that's my two cents on the issue. Upvote, Downvote, or do whatever.
