MMR Question

This is a bit of a QQ thread about match making, but here it goes anyway.

If my MMR is high for my league according to OP.GG, well was before the promo game dropped me 60mmr, why do I get people with 18% and 23% win rates in my promo series? That doesn't make any sense at all.

I don't get how you match that with anyone, or how you can possibly have a 23% win rate and be silver 5.

Because they were placed there. The 23% has 13 games total with only 3 wins and was put in S5; he'll be dropped into Bronze very shortly unless it changes. Same for the 18%, having 17 games with only 3 wins.

The baseline MMR is somewhere around mid silver, so most new players are put around there initially no matter how bad they really are.
