I wonder...

Within the last two years of league of legends, there has been a surprising amount of champions appearing in roles they normally would never be seen in. And this got me thinking, what else could potentially become a powerhouse pick with the right set up?

Now, I main support and the only other role I am good at is top lane, so those are the only two roles I'm limiting myself two, but or the next few weeks I'll be experimenting in Normal Draft games with some champions in those roles (THAT KIT WISE SEEM VIABLE) with differing builds to see if they could work, or be secret OP.

The process of this will be playing roughly 10 straight games with the champion in the specific role, seeing if I can find a set up that works really well, then making an overall judgement on if it can work in all situations, niche situations, or none and scrapping the attempt.

Current Ideas I will be testing are Support: Orianna with E max -> W max. Trying out primarily aura/buffing builds. Lissandra With a hybrid tank/damage build (thinking Zeke's and Banner) Anivia With a mana, cdr, and tank build. Focus will be on lowering enemy attack speed and disabling escapes. Mordekaiser Becoming a heal bot by maxing W for early lane phase, then moving on to build a Rylai's and tank so picks and peeling can somewhat happen. Galio Using his Bulwark and E and be a stat buffer, while using ultimate for peeling back-line divers. Maokai By recommendation of SwHc Fenris. Viktor By recommendation of SwHc Fenris.

Top: Gragas With RoA and his waveclear being stronger, want to see if bringing this guy back is possible. Karthus Split pushing or days with a hybrid tank build, putting global presence with ultimate. Nidalee Bringing back that old RF Legendary tanky nidalee with cougar form focus.

Will take me a while before I can attempt some of these (don't own Mordekaiser or Galio) so those will be last. I will start with Orianna, then go to Anivia, then Gragas, Nidalee, Lissandra, Karthus, Mordekaiser, then Galio.

I'll be streaming as I do these games here. Note I will not be having any commentary during streams except when playing with large groups, otherwise it will just be music and game sounds. After each game I will make note of good/bad points to what was tested, then think on what could be improved.

If anyone has an idea on what they would like to see tested, leave a comment with how it seems viable and I'll add it to the list! In addition, feel free to join me in this if you would like!

Edit: Whenever I'm online doing this, I'll have a client chat room up called "Experimenting". Go in there to talk about possible builds and fun new ways to play champions!

The only thing that seems like it wouldn't work is Mordekaiser support, but I suppose it'd be worth a try. Orianna, Galio, and Anivia are great for supporting. I've tried Lissandra; she doesn't seem great, but not too bad. I'm a huge fan of those picks for top (especially Karthus). Rylai's is super strong right now. I'd say ROA/Rylai's would work on all three.

Note that these opinions are coming from a casual scrub who plays bot games. But I like your ideas.

I think every one you have listed has been played in those positions, top Karthus is a bit rarer, especially if you're focusing on a tank build. Morde as support can work, especially after his rework, but as a direct ADC it would be better, especially with a poke support.

I wish you luck. Just some bits from my own experiences:

Orianna becomes very mana starved at support, so I would suggest some mana regen options early (or Frozen Heart if you're determined to stick with auras). My main problem with her, though, is that her poke is mid-ranged and negligible with no AP. Though, I'll admit I haven't tried her lately with the new Spellthief's and Thunderlord's, but I still feel like she's the least likely of your experiments to succeed.

Lissandra has some of the same issues as Orianna (mid-range poke, falls off quickly with no AP), minus the mana difficulties. She plays a bit like Morgana as far as her all-in. That's hard to pull off pre-Zhonya's, though, unless your team jumps in with you. A good comp will help with this, and rushing Zhonya's isn't a terrible idea (after T1 boots and SS). An early Zhonya's is especially beneficial if you want to use your ult to lock down an enemy carry rather than self cast.

Galio... Oh, how I wished I could pull this guy off better. His kit looks like it would be great for support: shield + self sustain (self-casting this when you step up into a small crowd of enemy minions for quick harass and back out is a great way to heal up); speed zone for better ganks/initiations; and that game-changing ult. Again, though, the struggle to balance harass and mana management is pretty steep; I would actually suggest trying the Relic line over Spellthief's and save your Q for setting up ganks. You also need to bear in mind that CC counters his ult, and I would suggest completely avoiding him against a Braum-Caitlyn lane (Cait can hit you outside your ult range). I would actually suggest trying him top lane as well; he does much better with gold.

I might also suggest Kayle support. She would fill a role as backline security for all-ins with her ult and healing, and some minor peel with her slow. Definitely would suggest building her tanky.

Gangplank with bandit and grasp. If you can keep in combat, you'll have some nasty poke :P Maokai As some kind of Leona/ braum is tank supp Viktor Support could be a great counterpick to botlanes with a Kog'Maw or Jhin. summoner 31
