Do champions remain over-tuned in order to drive profit?

I know this topic has been brought up before, but I wanted to get the community's input, and hopefully a red response.

Do champions remain over-tuned for long periods of time for business purposes?

These business reasons could be..

  • making pro play more dynamic and fun to watch
  • a new skin is on the horizon
  • a large amount of the paying player-base plays mostly over-tuned champions

If this is true, and during a meeting someone's supervisor said "let's take a look at the top played characters and ensure that we are delivering paid content to these characters as often as possible.", that makes sense, but I think we should have transparency around that. I say that, because currently we hear that under-tuned/unpopular champs don't receive skins due to them not fitting in to a certain theme.

Just something that was rolling around in the ol' cabesa.

In conspiracy? Yes. In probability? No. In actuality? No one knows.

Riot is a business, you can't really argue that. They do need to make decisions that are profitable so that they can continue to do what they do. But on the other hand, they've time and time again tried their best to communicate with the community and act on their behalf honestly. So I'd like to think they do not exploit what you've mentioned, but I would not be surprised if it was confirmed that they did something like, let's say, make skins more frequently for high played or popular champions for the sole purpose of their popularity.

Find and highlight any correlations in regards to patches, character reworks, and gameplay (items and such) for the past few years. I'm sure you will find a few that will line up but I am unsure as to the bigger picture. I wouldn't be surprised just like how they have global tourneys all the while having broken champs in the champ pool...
