Hacking and Account Recovery

Hello all,

Just a quick thought on recent activity regarding my account having been hacked.

I noticed yesterday that my LoL account had been hacked and someone had played a standard 5v5 game. The only reason I was alerted to this is because the hacker had purchased riot points and as a result I had received an email.

I immediately contacted the support team and explained the situation. They responded pretty quickly and restored everything for me; for which I am eternally grateful. However, and this is the gripe I have, the guy from the support team that helped and fixed the issue explained to me that this is the only time he is able to do this and that the security of my account is my sole responsibility.

I replied and said,

"Okay no problem, but is there two-factor authentication available to be sure this doesn't happen again?"

The support guy responded and said, "No, but ensure you scan your computer regularly for viruses and malware, etc. to reduce the risk"

^^Not verbatim, but near as dammit^^

Okay, I totally agree that the account security is my responsibility and that I should do my best to ensure my account isn't hacked again, but my original password wasn't an easy one to guess, and I have no idea how someone would have accessed it otherwise.

How am I supposed to protect my account without an option such as 2FA, which is pretty much standard these days, especially among gaming platforms?

Again, I'm not being critical of the support I received, or even the lack of security features available to me - I am genuinely interested to see what people think. I'm even willing to be wrong, if indeed I am missing something, but I'd like to see what people feel about this apparent flaw in security.

Thanks, siliconedude
