Camera Angle (Summoner's Rift specifically)

According to your logs, who wins more, purple or blue? Having the HUD pieces at the bottom of the screen make long range harassment a bit of a pain for purple. I was keeping the idea to myself, until I was in a pre-game lobby and some of my teammates made the comment, "I hope we're blue, I hate purple team." Now, programmatically speaking, allowing both teams to be the bottom team by changing the perspective involves flipping some math signs. I would be nice to allow each individual player to choose which side he would like to view from.

The only drawback I can see from allowing this, is when a team says "left" or "right" but we have pings right? I think this would remove any sort of (dis)advantage by allowing the same viewing angle for either side.

This has been pretty much my only complaint with the game so far. That and it's going to take me forever to unlock everyone I want with IP gaining so slowly. :p Thank you for the consideration.

I always vehemently, yet albeit mentally, swear when I am awarded the royal colored bottom lane. Yes, yes, people have told me to unlock my screen. Unlocking the screen is the bane of my existence right now--yet I hasten to add that I heartily accept it since I can see why the angles are the way they are. Too bad the HUD is not customizable so one can change the placement of the screen.

Btw, you can tell what team your on in the pre game lobby by looking at the color of the text above your team. This may not solve the problem, but you can choose your champion according to your comfort level of playing purple side.

Ive had this problem too. Im not good at using the free camera so i play locked, which makes purple side a bit of a hassle for me. I had the idea a while ago that we could choose where we put our hud. Like the purple team could put their hud on the top of their screens.I know that wouldnt affect the game much and it would definitely make purple side a little easier for me to play.

I know the blue side purple side issue has been around for a while. I also know that there is a lot of data to back up the unbalance between purple side and blue side. I personally have no problems playing on purple side. The biggest issue, and it is really more of a non-issue, is having to decide how my jungle route is going to change depending on the side that i'm playing on. I moved into league after a fair bit of experience playing real time strategy games such as Warcraft and Empire Earth. So I can not recall ever having depended on using a locked screen as my primary mode. This I think has translated into me not suffering any sever game play issues while on purple side, none that I notice anyways. But in the same breath, one of my closest friends despises purple side. Honestly he is a better player than I am but he also plays with a locked screen. He says that the camera perspective makes it harder to harass and keep an eye out for trades. So all in all I think playing on purple side just requires a slightly different skill set and the ability to adjust. Which does support the argument that the sides are not fair.

Also as a side note, I have been playing on purple side so much recently due to a nasty loss streak which in turn has caused me to pick up that purple side does have some advantages. I personally feel that purple side gives the jungler a slight advantage. My two favorite Junglers are Nocturne and Zac. both of which have a method of being able to jump walls which I find makes ganks on the bottom lane a whole heck of a lot easier. I also tend to be able to gank top lane much earlier in the game which has a much higher potential to snowball. The easier access to the dragon pit also makes dragon control noticeably easier for my team as well.

Disclaimer: these are all just my personal opinions. They do not change the data that has shown over and over again that purple side does have an advantage. Unless riot decides to make some significant changes to the map, which i will be all for, i think the best that can be done is to put in the little bit of effort to adapt and make the most of purple side. It will require a little bit more effort but in the end it will make you a better player. No one can deny that the ability to adapt is important in any League of Legends match.

I just think setting the camera angle so that your nexus is at the bottom of the screen or top (if you like that setting) with a tick in the options would be a welcome addition. The game data doesn't have to change, just how it is displayed would be evened out. I have never heard anyone complain about being blue. If being blue is not an advantage, then displaying your team's nexus at the bottom (so your view is the same as blue's) should not unbalance the game.

Riot talks about how they listen to the community and so I felt welcomed to post my thoughts here. I never once posted my thoughts on Blizzard's forums for starcraft. They wouldn't listen. Maybe riot can throw this idea into their "beta" version?

I think they should just rotate the map 45 degrees clockwise so that the directions are symmetrical based on the orientation of the screen. I agree with you that the gameplay changes based on the side you spawn on, though in terms of win-loss ratios it's really too trivial to tell. You have to factor in things like player skills, champion choices, etc.

I do think it would be a way to make the game more consistent and make more champs readily viable.

As long as these threads keep popping up I'll keep agreeing with them. I've played with unlocked camera for years and my win rate on blue is 21% higher than it is on purple.

The last sensible red argument I saw against just flipping the camera (which is trivially easy to do on Riot's part) was because top and bottom would have no meaning. But with smart pings that argument pretty much goes out the window. Besides, you can still ID the lanes via dragon and baron.

ive noticed that to. id lose more on the purple side then blue i just keep track and choose not to adc when it purple side it more of a pain with the icons and spells bars on bottom then aiming upwards is a drag .

All i can say is HOLY SHIT!!

http://community.na.leagueoflegends.com/c/ideas/cWdwRLQO-i-want-to-have-a-discussion-with-riot-about-the-camera-angle

I posted this 3 days ago, and have no responce, yet this post already has 15 respondents? Wow.. Either people refuse to actually read a long post out of fear it might mean something, or this community is pure lazy and wants everything silver plattered.

I can agree with this. Long range skill shots are hard to land when you cast to the bottom of the screen, and in stead of casting where you want you have to adjust so you don't hit the things on the bottom of the screen. Just my opinion though.w

Also it's worth noting that the higher average ELO team is always put on purple side. I think statistically purple side wins slightly more often, but this is probably why.

I'm willing to bet if the camera wasn't an issue this statistic would change.

If LoLReplay is approved by Riot, I wonder what their thoughts are on having the community write a SideSelect addin. Probably breaks the EULA, but I'm sure the writters of LoLReplay broke that to write their project.

I had this problem a while back. But some of my friends told me to unlock the screen, because then your able to move your camera wherever you want, without the bottom part of the screen interfering. It took me a few days to get used to it, but it will come, and it will make it all better. :)
