Need That Budget Rig to Run LoL? Here's the Hardware & Specs

Browsing the forums I always see somebody asking how well x system will run LoL, what's a good budget computer, etc. A few days ago my laptops hdd crapped out on me and I decided it was time for an upgrade. This isn't the cheapest, just about anything can run this game fairly well. Anyway, I was on an extreme budget. My goal was to make the cheapest thing that can run all modern & upcoming MMO's without breaking a sweat.

Since I'm downloading LoL, I thought I would do a good deed and help anyone looking for the same out.

AMD recently made a big step forward in their APU, now generally integrated graphics as I'm sure a lot of you know are terrible. However this one is different (integrated R7 graphics). You can also later down the line add one of two r7 series graphics cards (sub $100) to supplement the APU.

CPU/Graphics

AMD A10-7850K Kaveri 12 Compute Cores (4 CPU + 8 GPU) 3.7GHz Socket FM2+ $170 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113359&cm_re=amd_a10-7850k-_-19-113-359-_-Product

RAM This is very important because higher speed ram significantly increases the performance of the Kaveris graphics. The 7850k supports up to 2133 and you can set this ram down from 2400. It's some pretty sweet memory at the same price of much less quality memory.

G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231587&cm_re=g.skill_trident_x-_-20-231-587-_-Product I have the RAM set to 2133@9-11-11-28

Motherboard Really cheap motherboard for what it offers.

ASRock FM2A88X+ BTC $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157516&cm_re=asrock_a88x-_-13-157-516-_-Product

Power Supply I'm using a 400w power supply, mine came with the case I ordered which was the wrong size so I'm not going to link what I bought. Nothing you really have to take care about as far as compatibility is concerned with selecting one. Getting one over 400w won't hurt anything.

Case Call up your local computer repair store and ask them if they have any cases laying around that they could sell you. You need a mid tower or full tower. They sold me a nice mid tower case for $20. Make sure they are going to give you the case fan and all they standoffs/screws; they should but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Total Price: $400

I haven't had a chance to play LoL yet but it will run with max setting well above 60fps. I'll update the exact fps I'm getting when it's finished installing. I'll also update the post with the FPS and settings of any games I play.

One question... Could you post what fps you get when the Rift Visual Update comes out? I'm certain it might change.

80-90 FPS With everything on very high. 125 FPS With everything on medium. And yeah I will post after the update comes but I have no doubt it will be very playable, Riot won't make the hardware requirements that huge and lose 25% of their player base; a lot of players play on low end computers.

None of it will be future proof lol. If this is just for league and similar games then yeah maybe but for those who are interested in an upgradable or a computer fit for the future, you'll have to dish out around $300+ more depending where you live and what kind of local shops you have for hardware.

For like $600-800 you can build a computer that will play most games on near max settings so it's a little wiser to wait and save for more cash before salvaging old parts to play a game like League. And never be afraid to build your own computer, it's the easiest thing when it comes to anything about them.

Yeah that is the tradeoff, obviously 2015 AAA titles wont be running on max. However, sometimes you only have enough money to get what you can get. This is a good rig to game on until you can comfortably shell out $800 on a pc. Of course it would be better to save another $400 , you could have a better computer if you saved another $800.. you see where this is going. Adding one of the R7 cards it supports increases performance a lot also. And nothing is future proof, longer-proof yes.
