Mod/Temp Fix for bugs: "unable to mute pings" and "unable to use skill noise being too loud"
EDIT 2: Riot moved SOFT_REPAIR. If you need help let me know.
2 bugs introduced this patch:
-
Some people are unable to mute or change the volume of pings.
-
All people now have a louder "you cannot cast that skill right now" noise (cooldown, out of mana, out of range, etc)
If either of these things is REALLY bothering you, you can use this mod to mute ALL HUD sounds. WARNING: this includes things such as: the "click" noise when you use skills, the "cannot cast skill right now" noise, shop noises, pings, turret aggro noise, chat noises, etc... Hopefully you can understand my quick guide, as I don't have time to include screenshots and stuff right now.
Download RAF manager (mediafire link in this thread):
http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=722943
Backup your entire League installation (copy your "C:\Riot Games" folder, while league is NOT running, and paste it somewhere).
Open RAF manager. In the archive browser tab on the left, right click. Click "search all archives". Search for "HUD_global". Right click and delete the 3 "BNK" files that show up with "HUD_global" in their name. Close RAF manager.
Open Windows Explorer. Go to "C:\Riot Games". In the search box (top right in windows 8), search for "S_OK". 8 files should pop up named "S_OK" with no extension. Right click each one, click "properties", check the "read only" checkbox, and save. This will stop the League patcher from deleting the "S_OK" file, which it uses to determine if your installation is "corrupt" (in which case it would "repair" and delete your mod). *** There is an edit to this, see below.
Open League and all HUD sounds should be gone (including pings and the "cannot cast skill right now" noise). When Riot releases a new patch, just delete your modded Riot Games folder and copy the clean backup folder back into its proper place, and patch it. If the new patch doesn't fix the issue, redo the mod.
There is probably a better way to do this (and target the actual offending sound files, instead of deleting the entire HUD soundbank), but it requires other programs that I have not researched and verified to be safe, and it is a lot more complicated (and I really don't have the time to figure it out).
***EDIT: it seems this did not fully fix the problem. If your patcher asks you to repair your installation, and you don't want to redo the mod, do this:
Search your "Riot Games" folder for a file called "SOFT_REPAIR" and delete it. And optional: if you want to prevent this file from showing up again, right click the folder it showed up inside (in my case, "C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\RADS\projects\lol_game_client\releases\0.0.1.38" so right click the "0.0.1.38" folder), go to "properties", click the "security" tab, click "EDIT" ("to change permissions, click edit"), and for every user (including administrator) click the "DENY" checkbox under "WRITE".
When doing this mod for the first time, you can probably prevent this issue by denying write access to "C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\RADS\projects\lol_game_client\releases\0.0.1.38" before the "SOFT_REPAIR" file ever shows up, preventing the patcher from trying to ever repair your installation. I will edit this if the patcher detects my mod again.
Another option is to deny write-access to your entire "Riot Games" folder, as well as making the entire folder read-only. But that would prevent you from changing settings and may have other unintended consequences.
