How much do you TRULY enjoy playing League of Legends?

I'm looking to collect data and use it to create a video talking about Riot Games, the community, and how people view the game. i'm looking to see if the community truly does enjoy playing League of Legends and has fun doing it, how people feel about all the changes Riot has made over the years, how people feel about the way Riot balances (or doesn't really balance) their game, things we've been given (Dominion), things we haven't been given (Magma chamber, skins for Summoner's Rift, a replay system), and everything in-between.

If you could take a few minutes out of your day/night to tell me about how you feel about the game and what your experience is/has been, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I would say from the 5+ years I've been playing this game I'm enjoying it. I think one of things that's best to do especially now a days, is to just mute everyone, or at least mute right when any sign of toxic behavior is coming.

Aside from that League isn't the only game I play, and when I get bored of it I play other things like Steam games, or my home consoles/handhelds! I do think Riot does a good job at what they are doing, granted there are things like Balancing of champions, and reworks that I feel should be something of a top priority. That and possibly server maintence.

If there is one thing that is never consistent with this game is the whole servers. There should never be one game where I play perfect fine with little to not lag, and the game right after that is laggy, 2k MS. Granted usually a simple quit out the game and relog in will help, but some times that's not the case, or you get hit with a BugSplat error which usually means you can't get back into your game.

I really feel like they are taking too much of their time money and effort with Esports. Last year was in such a huge stadium I can only assume this years will be even bigger, which means more money they need to spend to afford that.

Don't get me wrong I can understand why they take that seriously, but I feel like people need to actually play and enjoy your game first before Esports. It really should be a side type of project, while their main focus is to actually help and improve the game from the server side, as well as the balancing of champions items and modes.

I love this game, and I love what Riot is doing.

I basically bought a PC because this game grabbed me. Before that, I was a purely console gamer. I was originally playing league on a mac with the iLoL client, supported by Boompje and co. I realized I was super hooked and needed a PC to play it right. That was Spring 2012, the beginning of Season 2.

I went from being a support main, buying wards most of the game, to a mid main who dabbles in adc and support. I was there when heart of gold and philosopher's stone were items (thank god they aren't anymore).

Like anyone else, I have had periods of frustration with Riot's direction, but I think it has been very, very good overall. Their continued success as a company is a testament to that. The change, frankly, is faster than what it feels like playing day-to-day. Thinking about what the game was like even just last year is pretty wild (we have only had trinkets for a year, people). They are moving closer and closer to a very ideal situation with the game, and I think their ideas are usually quite good.

In the last year or so, I've become much more active in boards and started to get in tune with some of the frustrations of the community, and we've experienced some big ones lately. I think MOST of the general frustrations with the game stem from people not understanding Riot's business model, and just not being realistic about how real-world companies operate. Riot has limited resources, and they don't make infinite money. They are limited in what they can do without overreaching, and I think it's really important to remember that. This argument MOSTLY applies to omissions; not having balanced ARAM or Dominion doesn't bother me, because I know how much money they would have to spend to make those modes as balanced as SR.

Where I appreciate and share some frustration with Riot is when they release mediocre content they DID spend and money time on. Cass and Morde reworks were both big letdowns for me, and I know other people would add to that list. It feels like quality control is a little bit low, and that would traditionally be a strength for a "smaller" company (contrasted with the weakness of limited ability to add content). The content they DO add needs to be good, and it needs to satisfy the majority of players, at least. That can't be said for Morde, new masteries, Rift Herald, Fiora artwork, and several other recent flops in design, balance, and art. That, I feel, is Riot's biggest area for improvement, and when the players don't like content, they need to be willing to take it back to the shop and keep working, instead of forcing it through. I realize not everyone will EVER be satisfied, but when 90%+ of your playerbase hates a rework, maybe think twice about forcing it through (it feels that strong with Morde. Obviously, that isn't a hard stat).

In conclusion, though, they have executed their dream of a constantly evolving MOBA INCREDIBLY well, and I will continue to support the game for many years to come, I hope. It continues to be great content and evolves as it needs to. In my opinion, that evolution is mostly in the right direction, and as long as I perceive it that way, I will keep playing. Hope you all do, too, of course!

i Enjoy league as much as anything on a good day, but the accumulated negativity of years of things changing in ways that differ from why i joined this game in the first place is slowly making me feel like league isn't going to be worth playing too much longer.

i'm not saying the game will be worse, or better in the years to come, but when i joined this game, most of the champs had mixed scaling, allowing you to constantly test, and find new niche ways to play champs, but it feels like riot has a clear goal of what they want the game to be ideally, and to me it feels like what that is has changed over they years.

for me, the most recent champion "reworks" have made my love of the game die faster than it ever had.

i played morde in ranked as a top laner for 4 years. not that i was a top main, but when i had to, he was my go to. poppy was my first bought champion, i played her jgl and thought of her as a pimple popper, stick someone between a rock and a hard place and watch them erupt. i played fiora ~100 games since her release, before the change. where does the Grand Deulist heals people come from? wouldn't it make more sense if she transferred the mark to the next nearest target and kept dueling the team one at a time? graves i have a 70% winrate in ranked, but not new graves, i wont play him in ranked ever again. EVER. he cant push a tower, his range is damn near melee, and his risk/reward doesn't feel satisfying as a melee marksman.

tbh i loved the heimerdinger rework, it gave him the consistency he needed, but that is the only feels-good rework of champs i played.

i know riots goals are what they are, but slowly the champions i enjoyed the most, are becoming things i can barely stand to look at without tilting.

the scattered opinion of someone with >3000 hours playing league.

At first, I loved this game. I would buy a new champion and be all giddy and happy, laughing and smiling the whole way. I had a lot of fun, and I did pretty well too. The longer I played though, the more I realized that this just isn't the game for me -- it was a slow realization, taking a few months (I started in June of 2015), but eventually I did realize that I hate this game.

  • A company that doesn't give a damn about anything other than their wallet (As if billions a year isn't enough), but has the gall to lie to our face and tell us that they do actually care.

  • Cash grabs as far as the eye can see.

  • A game built entirely to cater to morons who can't be bothered to put in any effort (Retar--ahem, casuals, are where the money is at), since thought and effort are evil, evil things in today's society.

  • A total lack of balance (Not surprising, since balance isn't lucrative for an F2P company).

  • A community that showcases how "wonderful" humanity is (and how embarrassing it is to be part of it).

  • Devs (Lyte) who pander to kids (all about that money, you know) and remove anyone who bruises their ever so fragile, massive ego.

  • All the typical F2P methods of milking, such as ridiculous grinds, total lack of effort in the base game / art, etc.

All reasons I can't stand this game or the company that runs it.

So why do I play? Well, that's because, in today's world, nearly every game out there is utter garbage. So, when every game out there is horrible, you just play whatever is most popular and least painful. I grew up with video games, and loved them the whole way, but as with TV, movies, books and everything else, things are just losing their luster. New authors, producers, developers, cartoonists... they don't really care about what they do anymore. Everyone is just out to make money these days, and it's destroying the creative world. Gone are the days of old Nintendo (R.I.P.), where people like Miyamoto put their heart and soul into their games... enter the world of companies like EA and Ubisoft who will do whatever it takes to milk you for every cent you own -- and all the companies that follow in their footsteps (every company that offers DLC or operates under "F2P").

Now, some good games do exist, sure, but they last 5-8 hours, or eventually cave and give in to the "casual" (In my mind, casual has two definitions. The first is someone who doesn't spend a lot of time playing games. The second, and ultimately more common, is some fucking asshole who can't be bothered to lift a finger to do anything, and instead pouts and stamps his feet until he gets his way -- usually by paying money) swarm, 'cause, you know, gotta hump that wallet!

I would quit in a heartbeat if I could find a game that's actually fun to play and somewhat challenging, with content that lasts for more than a day or two. I played WoW for over 10 years, and then it became "casualified" and died with 6.0. I tried GW2, but it was just too pathetic (as in, I could roll my face and win. It just wasn't fun). I tried FFXIV, got bored within a couple weeks (combat was super slow, and way too easy). Tried Wildstar, got bored after several months (Same issue as above; just way too easy and repetitive).

Honestly, I don't even really like MOBAs. The only reason I play League is because I have nothing better to do, and competitive games are fun, even if the game itself isn't.

But, since I have no friends to hang out with, no girlfriend to spend time with, nowhere to go (live in the middle of Warehouse City), hobbies that get old after a while, and nothing I enjoy watching on TV or anything... playing video games I don't enjoy is all I really have. I wish I could find something I do actually enjoy, but I'm just not meant to be happy -- that's against the rules of the universe.

Donno if my ranting helps with your video at all. If not, I'm sorry for filling your thread with a bunch of rambling and depression talk. I can just delete it if you like.

Started playing this game around 2013 (around the time that Spirit Guard Udyr skin was release). Bit confused of how to play the game at first, but later one I was able to understand the basic through regular normal matches and bot games. I did have fun through out and spend a lot of time grinding IP to unlock champions and collect runes. I soon grew a bit tired of the game because at the time I feel like it's not enough, but it could be just me. Now I just play the game a few times ever patch and then stop 'til the next patch to play again. As far as balancing of the champions, I have no problem about it, especially since players want to have fun with champions they like to play to win a game. Rather they nerf or buff Thresh, Zed, or Darius, I still play them because I enjoy them. The only major problems I have with the game is the closing of the tribunal and having to deal with toxic players. A minor problem is the whole prices of the items in the shops (wards, chrome skins, and rune pages) be bit too high or costing RP.

It's really a mixed bag, personally.

League overall is fun to come back to, and I've met some nice people through League. Dominion offers some incredible gameplay that none of the other MOBA-esque have managed to match. ARAM's interesting, ostensibly testing a player's ability to be well-rounded. SR balance has, if not always good, typically at least been regular. Riot's made great strides in esports, particularly in broadcasting and production values. Providing an API has been neat and had some impressive products. Rioters have generally been friendly and/or helpful when interacting with the community.

On the other hand, the negative parts have been exceedingly bad. The unwavering focus on esports resulted in extreme neglect of non-SR game modes. ARAM has never gotten map-specific balance updates, and SR typically receives about as many balance changes in a single patch as TT and Dom combined have had in four years. Even URF, the temporary "everything is bonkers!" game mode, received more balance changes in its singular patch in 2015. Every year, Riot says "Sorry, we dropped the ball. We're discussing ways to make it right," yet every year, nothing happens. SR continues getting more toys (e.g. Champ Mastery, ranked improvements) while alternate maps continue to languish, forgotten. Furthermore, Rioters have sometimes provided absurd explanations for decisions (e.g. lack of Boards features, extending Mastery to the rest of the maps, Champ reworks, sandbox) that make players seriously question the internal workings of the company.

Essentially, there's a bunch of kinda nice things about League and a handful of exorbitantly bad things about League.

Let me get this straight. You came to the boards to get honest, usable data about having fun?

Hm.

You should also make a video asking lampreys what they think about the concept of benevolence.
