Ever since I was 4 I've been playing video games, and have gotten really really good at them. I developed a shit ton of mental illnesses at the age of 9 after some illness in the family, and started popping crazy pills at 15. I'm 16 now, off my meds, and my brain feels like mush right now. I can't focus, I can't think, I can't do much of anything. This is a massive problem for me because video games (Specifically LoL for the past 3 years) are my life, and I feel like I'm falling back into a bad depression because I can't do anything anymore in the only thing I was good at. Any tips on focusing during the game? Getting my focus back in general would be amazing right now. I'm like a brain dead cat.

I got a few tips:

-- Instrumental music. Not loud enough to overpower anything in-game, but with little to no lyrics instrumental music can keep me pumped without getting me distracted.

-- Stay hydrated, fed. No seriously, anyone who's played video game for a few hours knows how it can get if you've simply, well, forgotten to eat/drink. It doesn't seem that bad until you realize how you feel after you've stopped paying. Beat that to the punch by keeping a bottle of water nearby as well as a small, healthy snack (I prefer fig newtons myself). You'd be surprised at how stressed out and distracted you can be because of that without even noticing it. And remember, if you're thristy, you're already dehydrated, drink before that.

-- SLEEP. At least 7 hours. 'nuff said.

-- Practice your cs'ing with a solo custom game before you que. Use whatever champion you're planning to play or seem to keep playing in your games. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes to know how hard you hit minions at any level. Want an additional challenge? Never buy items.

-- If you're not feeling mentally up for trashtalking and what not, keep all-chat turned off. And if it's becoming a problem on your own team pre-emptively mute your team. I may get grilled for telling you to not communicate, but it's better to get your confidence back first and then introduce yourself back into the chat box. You still have pings, and the chatbox will usually be a distraction in most cases anyway.

-- Keep your cool. This is a competitive game, there will be people who are better than you. It's a hard but vital lesson to be able to take losses gracefully, even when they aren't taking their victory respectfully. Be the better person and you'll feel better afterwards than if you lost your cool.

-- Get another hobby on top of League. Sticking with the logic of above ^^^^, League is a competitive game, and it's stressful no matter what you do. Even if you win. So if you're worried about where you're at mentally it's probably a good idea to get another hobby to fall back on when you're having a bad League day, as well do eventually. Personally I write or program games. I royally suck at both, but hey it gives me something to think about and do by myself, so it doesn't matter if I suck at it, it's fun and I learn things along the way.

Hope that helps, and gl hf!

Umm It really depends on you and what gets you going and focused. Like if I play top or mid then I just think "alright, time to give em everything I got" as a supp or adc I know i need to rely on my ally and really trust each other to do get through it alive and jung I just love to think that I give the opponents heart attacks when I gank especially with rengar .^_^
It just depends on what makes you tick and what you find to be fun. Personally I've found the jungle to be quite entertaining lately as well as XinZhao top against a Marksman top They always forget about his W passive heal xD

Take some time and figure out WHY you're losing focus. Are you tired, hungry, sick or otherwise suffering from anything? Are you just not having fun? Do you not feel challenged?

Honestly, the real key to so many things is to know yourself. Recognizing WHAT your problems are is very difficult, but once you're honest with yourself a lot of things become easier.

Also... even pro gamers have hobbies other than the one game they get paid to play. Sure they may not get much time for those hobbies, but they have them. Teach yourself to cook, take up reading, drawing, writing, photography, hell even as simple as watching tv or anime or something, some physical hobby(go shoot hoops, rollerblade, walking, swimming, whatever)... you need to have something that isn't gaming to keep your mind sharp. Anything that exercizes a different part of your mind will help keep you balanced and focused.
